I woke up early Saturday morning to the smell of fresh bacon and eggs. I quickly showered and ate like I haven't seen a bite of food in a month. Uncle Sam looked in amazement, "You'd think a girl like you wouldn't be used to pig bacon and hen's eggs for breakfast." He smirked.
"Ma cooked it every second Saturday." I mumbled while stuffing my face. He laughed and cleaned our plates.
"Jayden is outside feeding the horses if you'd like to go take a look" Sam replied, pointing to the red barn outside the window.
I made my way out to the barn as Ma's boots clinked on top of the rocks beneath me. Jayden was stroking a brown and white horse as I entered.
"Hey, you found your way out of the bed, did you?" He grinned, laying the brush on the ground. A confused look spread across my face.
He raised an eyebrow, "I came to see if you wanted to go for a trail ride this morning, but you weren't awake."
"Oh, well, I'd love to go on one now. I mean, I've heard all about them when Ma was here." I shifted uncomfortably.
"Oh. Well, after you." He lead me to the brown and white horse, "This is Fury."
I smiled and stroked his white fur, "Hi, Fury!"
Jayden smiled and took my hand. He put it underneath the horses mouth and laid an apple there for him to eat. His hand was warm as it stayed underneath mine. It was much bigger, and stronger. My heart skipped a beat.
The horse chopped on the apple as I laughed and wiggled when he licked my hand. Jayden pulled my hand back out and pulled the horse out of the pen.
After the horse was sattled and calm, Jayden gave me a leg up onto Fury's back. I smiled as he steadied me. His eyes were brown and sparkled in the sunlight overhead. He finally let go of my leg and my shoulder after a minute.
"Um, so, shall we go?" His gaze wandered to his horse behind him. It was black with a white streak on its face. It was beautiful.
We road down through the woods and into a field with a water stream. Jayden steadied my hand on the reins as Fury galloped through the water. My stomach experienced butterflies as his hand brushed against my jeans. He studied my eyes and then lead Fury out of the water.
He is beautiful. Wait, what?
I changed the subject inside my head by asking Jayden about Uncle Sam, "So, is Sam always busy?"
He glanced at me through the tree branches that separated us, "I guess, I mean, all farmers are busy, right?"
I ducked under a large twig, "No, I mean..you said he was too busy to clean my room, so that means he must be more busy."
"Yeah, I guess so, but the most I do around here is clean the horse poop and feed the horses." He gets closer to me and pets my horses neck."
Once we get back to the house, it's sunset and time for me to go in, "Thanks." I say as I jump off of Fury, "I had a fun time."
"No problem," he smiled, dusting off his pants.
I tripped over a rock as he caught me by the waist, "Woah, you alright?" He asked.
"I'm fine," I said, as he pulled me up to his body. I looked away from his eyes, uncomfortably, "I...I better get going."
"Yeah..." He lets go of my arms and rubs his neck, "I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Yeah sure." I say, turning my back to him."
I feel him biting his lip, "Goodnight."
I go into my room and shut the door behind me. I bite my lip and stand, frozen by the door.
