Oh my god this is SO freaking cool!
A real live mission on his very first day! Seriously that's j-
No...Calm...deep breaths. You're not some flaily, fumbly college student with the energy of an over caffeinated chipmunk on a sugar high anymore:
You are an Oasis Scientist.
Oh my god you're a-
No...Again; calm. Deep breaths, reel it in. Be professional. Be focused. Be an Oasis Scientist. You've told them over and over that you can do this but actions speak louder than words. And flailing, babbling fangirling speaks even louder. You know you can do this but you need to get them to see that. That ain't gonna happen if you're babbling a mile a minute, fangirling every time you turn around and flailing like a marionette who's puppeteer is being bombarded by bees.
Deep breaths...focus...concentrate on the mission. We're almost there...we'll be landing at the site of the anomaly in about ten minutes the-huh...
He paused, gaze flickering over the map projection of their landing site.
"Hey wait, it says in the datapac the readings from the travelers were coming from the north side of the island? Why are we landing so far away?"
Alec gave a faint shrug.
"Because you never want to just drop in out of the blue without doing some form of recon first. It's always best on a mission if possible to ensure you can get on the ground, get situated and assess the situation before just jumping in blind."
Alec shifted, turning more towards the screen, setting up, hitting a few buttons on the side of the readout screen, bringing up the topographical map, pointing at their chosen landing spot, gaze shifting back to Simon.
"See the place we're landing is one of the highest points overlooking the island, it's about a mile and a half hike to where the Candle anomaly opened, and close to one hundred feet higher. We'll be able to get a nice clear view of the location from there and the distance gives us the advantage of choosing exactly when and how our presence is revealed to the travelers. Readings show a lot of rocks, brush and other natural cover we can use to disguise our movements.
Looks like the vehicle's on a low lying flat expanse at the bottom of a basin like area on the north face of the island. We're coming in low from the south so they don't notice anything off...well you know, besides careening through a shimmering portal and ending up stranded on a deserted island. We'll land on the ridge out of view, get a clear bead on the targets and be able to assess the best way to approach from there."
Simon blinked, brow quirking.
"Targets?"
Alec kind of faltered, shrugging.
"I-well th-"
Bindy snorted, flashing a teasing smile, gave a faint wave towards Alec, shrugging unconcerned.
"Targets, rescuee's, marks, travelers, whatever you want to call them. The people we want to get a bead on before they get one on us. Semantics aside Boyscout's right. Whenever possible go for the high ground and scope it out before diving in. I'm all for playing it by ear and changing things up on the fly but the more you know of the situation going in the better you're gonna be able to gauge your next step. Best way to know what audible to call is to know as much about what you're dealing with from the get go as possible."
