"Tom-"
"WILBUR!" Tommy cried out and cut Wilbur off the second his call was answered. "Wilbur! I think I messed up!"
"Tommy, what are you talking about?" Wilbur asked, confused. He hadn't expected a call tonight. But this seemed a bit urgent. Wilbur could tell. Tommy's breathing was unsteady and his voice was filled with panic, and everything he was hearing was supposedly staticky.
"Well, a few weeks ago I met this boy—who I rather got along with quite well—and he had these problems with his parents about coming out as bisexual and so I encouraged him to do so and to be confident with himself, and so tonight he called me and told me that he came out to his parents, but they weren't happy he said and then he told me he messed up and-and-"
"Woah Woah, Tommy! Calm down! Deep breaths," Wilbur interrupted and took deep breaths to calm the boy down. Tommy followed his breathing. After a second, Wilbur asked, "Alright. I need you to recite to me everything, slowly. Try not to leave out any details. Take your time."
And so Tommy explained to Wilbur about the events that happened that evening and about Damien and his parents. Suddenly, Wilbur felt sick.
"Are you sure about this, Tommy? You have-"
"Yes. I'm sure." Tommy said with no hesitation.
To Wilbur, that sounded like Child Abuse. This kid—Damien—seemed to be running from something. Or someone. This couldn't be good.
"Okay. I need you to listen to me, okay, Tommy?" Wilbur said slowly and wrote down something on a notepad. Tommy answered"okay" and Wilbur continued, "I need you to call the police and tell them about everything that happened in that call. And I mean everything. Can you do that for me?"
"Yeah. Yeah, I can do that..." Tommy began but paused. "We'll find Damien, right, Will?"
Suddenly, Wilbur's throat went dry. He had no idea if they would be able to find Damien. He had no idea if Damien was even okay. He had no idea if Damien was even alive. But he couldn't say that to Tommy. His heart would break.
Instead, he said; "Y-Yeah, yeah. We'll find him, Tommy. Just, get some sleep."
And he ended the call.
