"Diluc! I need help with my homework!" Diona burst into the room, clutching a paper in her small hand. Lately, the kid had been spending time after school to get help with her homework from him, since her biological parents were often busy.
Diluc looked up from his desk. "Okay, what is it this time?"
The little girl held up her paper to show that it was an assignment on fractions and percentages. The two slowly worked through each question, as the older boy guided Diona through the processes of getting each answer.
"Okay, this is the last question. What's the simplified version of 7/21?"
She immediately started scribbling down an equation with her chewed-up pencil. "It's 1/3, that was easy."
But as she took her paper off the table to leave and play with her friends, something caught her eye. As she looked closer, she recognized Diluc's neat and old-fashioned handwriting on the letter. The contents of it mentioned some boy, and judging by the rest of it, the letter seemed to be addressed to someone he loved.
"Ooh, are you writing a letter to your boyfriend?" She teased him.
He hid the letter in a drawer. "I most certainly am not, I thought I taught you to not go around looking at other people's personal belongings. Now, go play with your friends."
"Boo, you're boring! I'll listen to you this time, but just remember, I'm not forgetting this that easily!" Diona shouted as she ran through the door. Little did Diluc realize, she had secretly swapped her homework for the letter. She ran over to Mondstadt, where she met Klee, her best friend in the whole entire world.
"Klee, Klee! Look what I found!" She showed the blonde the letter that she had snatched from Diluc's room.
They slowly read it over together, Diona helping the younger girl with the words she didn't know how to read yet. Then they thought as hard as they could, trying to figure out to whom it had been addressed. At first, they thought it could have been Jean, but they quickly crossed her off the list of candidates after reading the line mentioning that the recipient was a boy. Eventually, the younger of the two girls connected the dots and realized their meaning.
She turned to Diona. "It could be that green guy, you know, the one with the braids and the tnt harp-looking thingy!"
"You mean Venti?" She asked.
Klee nodded vigorously. "Yeah, yeah! That's him! It makes sense 'cause they've got an Anemo thingie!"
"Mhm, it really does make sense! Now, all we've gotta do is mail this to him!" She looked over the letter one last time, making sure they hadn't missed something that would cross him off the list of possible recipients of the letter.
The little girl nodded her head again. "There's just one teensy weensy itty bitty little problem though... We can't really mail it to them. I think he's like, homeless or something. We could tape it to that big tree they sleep in, though! You know, the one with that statue of Brabet- Borba- I mean, the Anemo guy!"
"You mean Barbatos, Klee. But that is a good idea. He'll definitely notice it then. Now, we just need to get there!" The two ran across the bridge.
Together, the two made their way from Mondstadt's gates to Windrise, which was quite the distance considering their small size. About a few hours later, they finally arrived at the tree in Windrise.
Klee looked around in awe. "Wow! Everything here looks so pretty when the sky's all orange like that... I've only been here at night, 'cause that's when the fishies are asleep."
She reached forward and grabbed an Anemo Crystalfly, then another, and then yet another. Before she had even realized it, the sun had almost already set, and Venti was already on his way there.
"Klee! We've gotta tape the letter there soon, or else we'll have to wait until tomorrow, then Diluc'll realize I took his letter, then he'll be mad at me!" Diona practically dragged the other girl away from the Crystalflies, and they went on their way up the tree.
It was here that the pink-haired girl realized that she didn't know where to put it exactly. "So... Where do we put this?"
"Ooh, over there! That's the branch they probably sleep in, 'cause it's one of the biggest. That way, he'll definitely notice it!" She pointed towards a section of the tree in which a bird had nested.
Diona used her cat-like climbing abilities to make her way to the branch and tape the letter to a section of it. But just as they were about to get out of the tree, a familiar green-eyed bard appeared at its base. Klee attempted to say something but was silenced by Diona. They watched as he floated up to the branch and sat down on it. Then, he noticed the letter.
They picked up the letter. "Oh, is this a letter? How'd this get here? Well, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to just take a little peek. Whoever wrote this probably wouldn't mind. Who knows, maybe it's for me."
He read the letter, and then looked around, confused.
"Who'd write this? It's beautiful... I wish I knew the author. Too bad there's no signature. This handwriting does look familiar, though..." They thought aloud to no one in particular.
After he had fallen asleep, the two girls slowly and carefully made their way back down the tree and back into Mondstadt. There, they fell asleep right there at the gates. The next day, Diona barely escaped getting a homework strike by claiming she had lost it on the way there. After school, Diona went over to get more homework help from Diluc. Needless to say, due to the events of yesterday, she was not quite warmly welcomed like how she usually was.
"Diona. Care to explain why my letter disappeared and was replaced with your homework from yesterday?" He stared at her with piercing red eyes.
She attempted to explain her thought process. "...And that's why I took your letter."
"I swear to Barbatos..." He closed his eyes for a moment. "I guess it'd only be right to tell him the whole truth and give him peace of mind. Please, just mind your own business next time."
She nodded. "Yes Sir!"
After they had finished her homework, she rushed over to Mondstadt to check on Venti. She eventually saw them and started running after him to catch up. After a while, she caught up to them.
"Hey, Venti... Do you know who sent you that letter?"
He looked back at her. "Yup. I'm honestly surprised that he didn't tell me earlier. I mean, didn't he pick up on anything? I swear to me, he can be so clueless sometimes..."
