July 2007, Zubin's OLD House

~

Zubin poured chips into a bowl that was sitting on his coffee table. He was preparing for the weekly (almost, sometimes they would skip weeks because someone would be busy) hangout night. Hangout night was basically just a hangout night. ...but it wasn't just that. Sometimes it could have surprises and turns you'd never think of, and sometimes it had things you could think of.

For example, instead of hanging out they would write songs and produce new ideas. They thought it was good for their friendship and the band. It was common for them to do that instead of a wild night out or an intense game of monopoly or some other game. And by intense, it was intense. They would sometimes get into actual physical fights or verbal fights but they would usually last for about 20 minutes then make up. Then go home.

But this night wasn't like any other night. What the tallies didn't know, is that this would change their friendship forever.

"JUST A MINUTE!!!" Zubin shouted to the door as the doorbell rang and Zubin wasn't finished getting the snacks out. He threw the bag of chips somewhere on the floor and ran to his front door to answer it.

As Zubin opened the door he saw 4 men all standing there with various looks on their faces. Joe was smiling, Ross was smirking, Andrew had a straight face, Rob looked sad while Zubin was full-on grinning at the 4.

"Hey, dude!" Joe said as he gave a little hug to Zubin and flopped himself onto the couch.

As everyone greeted each other and was mostly messing around, Rob wasn't. He had an emotionless look on his face and held his Ipod & earbuds in his hand. He just spaced out looking onto the floor not really listening to anyone. Zubin noticed this, and he was a bit concerned for him.

It now had been a few minutes since everyone arrived and they were all chilling, talking while some random show on TV played. Rob was watching the other 4 talk to each other while he just let himself be alone. He was fiddling with his fingers wrapped up in his thoughts.

"Hey man...you okay?" Zubin said as he gave a concerned look to Rob.

"Oh!" Rob exclaimed as he flashed back to his normal, cheerful self (or at least what it seemed). "Yeah, I'm okay. Just caught up in some thoughts, that's all."

Rob lied. Clearly. He WASN'T OKAY. A few hours before this, maybe at the start of the evening, Rob had just broken up with his girlfriend. Actually, she broke up with him. He was devastated. This had completely ruined his energetic mood for the night and made Rob into a sad, sobbing mess. He knew he wasn't ready to be having fun just yet but he didn't want to ruin the mood.

"Ok. More snacks are in the kitchen if you need them." Zubin replied.

Rob nodded as he wiped away his sort-of frown. He started to be a little more active in the conversation, occasionally making jokes and his own comments to things. He was starting to feel better until Andrew suggested that it was time to write music. Rob panicked. He wasn't ready for this.

"U-uhm..." Rob stuttered. Everyone then looked at him and it gave Rob a slight dash of Anxiety. He gulped. "A-are you sure? Just saying, we should hang out a little more before writing. It gives us time to develop more ideas and shit."

"Rob, if you don't have any ideas then that's okay. You don't have to write everything. Let us do the work for you, okay?" Ross said as he gave an almost sympathetic look to Rob.

Rob internally rolled his eyes. "Ok." He said, still hiding what he felt inside.

The others kept suggesting ideas until they came up with a song. It was written by Andrew and was pretty good. Good enough to be finished! But Andrew didn't think it was that good enough. Everyone had suggested ideas but Andrew scrapped them. It had been most likely 30 minutes since Rob talked, so he thought it was okay for him to suggest an idea.
