Nico woke up from sleeping when he heard a loud bang by the door. He silently moved to face the door while still looking like he was asleep.
Being used to monsters and enemies had made him vigilant for attacks, and for a second he didn't know where he was.
He remembered just as he saw Will Solace stumble into the room. He thought it was hopeless to try to be quite when he had already made so much noise coming into the room, but he didn't say anything as he was trying to look asleep.
Will stepped walking forward and looked at Nico for a long time.
"I know your awake, you don't need to pretend", Will said with one of his bright smiles.
Nico slowly sat up, the work he had done in battle and bringing the Athena Parthenon to Manhattan had recently been catching up to him.
"How did you know?" Nico asked flatly.
He was still tired from sleeping, he began to yawn as he rubbed his blurry eyes.
"Your breathing pattern wasn't slow enough for you to be asleep," Will replied cheekily. "Plus, you look much more relaxed and adorab- peaceful in your sleep."
Nico thought that Will was going to say adorable, which he thought was weird, after all who could find him adorable, he was to skinny and pale. He brushed it off as a slip of Wills tongue.
"Oh ok then, that's kinda doctor like, you know, what with you being able to know someone's breathing patterns" said Nico.
Trying to fill the awkward silence that had fallen over the two boy's, and failing miserably.
"Nico I-- never mind, it's time for dinner and your not aloud to leave so I brought you your food" Will said, he seemed nervous and he kept twitching. At the moment he was playing with a strand of his hair.
Will handed Nico a plate the Nico hadn't noticed he was holding. The plate looked like something that Percy would dig into and devour in a second.
It was lasagna with tomato sauce and meatballs, it would look really appetizing to anyone except Nico.
Nico was hesitant to take it though.
"I don't think I can eat all of that Will..." Nico stated warily. He looked at the plate like it was torturous and it was going to eat him instead of the other way around.
"Nico, it's really not that much, plus... your to skinny," Will said consciously.
After all, there was a rumour going around that the son of Hades was anorexic.
"Will I'm not really hungry, but you could leave it on the table and I'll eat it later, when I am hungry." Nico suggested
Again, Will was worried for Nico, but he did what Nico asked and left without a word. After all, Nico was trapped in a bronze jar for God knows how long. His stomach might have shrunk and he may really not be hungry.
Nico knew better though, he wasn't going to eat the food, he was hungry, but he thought he was fat. When Nico ran away from camp, after the labyrinth. He was caught and put into foster care, his sibling would taunt him and bully him, they said he was fat and ugly. They called him emo and the list went on and on. Eventually he started to believe them. After all, if someone says it so much, it has to be true, right.
Nico got up and opened a window, he breathed in the fresh air and dumped the food off of his plate and into the forest behind the infirmary. He then went to the bed and plopped down on it, like the couch potatoe he is.
He fell asleep fast, he had missed a lot of sleep and it was time to catch up on it. Especially since the war had ended and it was peacefully in the camp.
He expected to have nightmares as all demigod do. Instead he found himself dreaming of sunshine, he loved it. For once his world was lit up, and he felt safe, something he hadn't felt in a long time.
He loved the sun, it wasn't to bright and it wasn't to dim, it was perfect. His perfect sunshine, Nico just didn't know what it meant yet.
