Scene 7

The sun's going down and Gwen is sitting at the island looking at the clue. Nate is unpacking some fast food for their dinner.

Gwen: Our last clue led us to David.

Nate: Yes, and he gave us this clue.

Gwen: So could this be leading us to someone else we have worked with?

Nate: Possibly.

[peppy music begins to play]

Gwen: [singing] Who is she, who is she? Who is the girl we're looking for? Could it be, could it be? Someone we've worked with before?

Nate: [singing] Is she close, is close? Does she live near us? Does she know, does she know? Why there is such a fuss?

Nate/Gwen: [unison singing] Who... Is... She... How... Can... We... Find her?

Gwen: Will we find, will we find? Will we find her soon?

Nate: Is there time, is there time? Or is this not opportune?

Nate/Gwen: [unison] Is... She... Near... Does... She... Know... Dis... Ap... Pear... O... Ver... Flow... Give us a, give us a, give us a clue.

[music slowly fades]

Nate: [grabbing some things to prepare to eat] So we have no idea who she is?

Gwen: Well, the first stanza in just telling us we have to play.

Nate: [Taking a seat next to Gwen and handing her some food] So we don't have to pay attention to that part.

Gwen: [taking the food] No. The second part gives her attributes. [pause] She's short.

Nate: Compared to whom?

Gwen: [thinks a moment] I'd assume compared to us.

Nate: Well... there's Katie, Adriana, Dodger, Jessica, Or3o, other Katie, Kaela, and probably some others I forgot.

Gwen: What if we don't need to go as far back as Jessica and other Katie?

Nate: Okay? Someone we've both worked with?

Gwen: [definitive] Most likely, we can forget about other Katie, Jessica, and Dodger.

Nate: Katie is your height and Kaela is around there too. Plus Or3o is fairly tall.

Gwen: So it's Adriana? She's relatively short compared to us.

Nate: It fits because she also has a bubbly personality.

Gwen drops the clue in triumph and eats the food Nate gave her, as does he. They eat and music softly plays behind them. Time appears to pass, as we now see them finished with their meal. Gwen is typing on a laptop and Nate is feeding their cats.

Nate: [seemingly distant, even though he's in the room] Have you thought maybe we should involve the police?

Gwen: [hesitant] No.

Nate: Why not?

Gwen: Have you seen dramas? Whenever the police get involved, everything gets worse.

Nate: [skeptical] You do realize those are scripted, right?

Gwen: [slowly] Yes...

Nate: This is not the rational Gwen I know.

Gwen: Do you see AJ anywhere here?

Nate: [looks around a bit] No

Gwen: I don't have to be rational. If I were being rational, I'd say AJ just left or got lost.

Nate: That's not rational in itself

Gwen: [points at Nate] Exactly.

Nate: But I don't understand why this is leading us to guest stars.

Gwen: Me neither.
