Day 3

No one. Not even a neighbour, or person walking their dog. It's been what, 2 days? 3? I suppose I should start counting them, but the thing is, my expectations are that my family shouldn't be long.

I knew one thing, I was really low on food. I wanted to avoid going out because I have no money. Just 24 bucks from babysitting the neighbours' kids (I would have babysitted more but I am always too busy keeping my marks up for school) so I guess I would search for the things on sale.

As I was driving I was creeped out on how quiet and empty it was. I shouldn't be surprised but I truly am. What is going on? Would anyone even be at the superstore? There had to be.

When I got to the GreenTree Grocery Store it was a ghost town, no cars parked anywhere. Just abandoned shopping carts dotted throughout the parking lot. I grabbed the one nearest to me and headed inside.

The security cameras stared at me, all of a sudden, I got the creeps. If I was all alone, how come I feel the presence of something? If I really am, is that good? Or the opposite. I started getting really scared. What if not someone but something was here with me.

Lucy, I thought to myself, lay off. Its impossible and stupid, quit being a baby about it, just look for some food on sale.

And I'm correct, I need to stop duelling about something scary, I need food, that's a priority, and water.

I went to the canned food aisle, that's usually on sale, and it will last longer. I also have a love for canned peaches.

After visiting the frozen food aisle and produce aisle I decided I needed water. So I picked up a case of water for 5 bucks. Then I realised, I will be needing snacks for sure.

I walked slowly, examining all the prices and flavours of goldfish, cereal, granola bars, and other snacks.

Rustle, rustle, rustle.

I stopped the cart. That was not me. It sounded like someone (Or something.) was shaking a bag of..crackers? I tried slowly walking again, pushing the cart, inching my way down the aisle.

Rustle, rustle, rustle.

I froze to a halt so quickly the wheels of my relatively not-squeaky cart screeched. The rustling stopped immediately. I covered my mouth with my hand to keep myself from screaming, that's it. I'm done for. I was right. There is another thing with me. I'm not alone. Which is good but really not good at all considering whoever they are might kill me!!!

Footsteps.

I panicked. I spun around, looking for a weapon to defend myself with. Do I run? No. They are bound to out run me, I could hide but what happens if they find me? I'm toast.

Next thing I knew, I screamed, the person screamed back, I grabbed a can of tuna and chucked it at them, I crouched down behind my cart as if it would protect me, I heard a thunk and someone cursing, it sounded like a guy to me.

I looked behind the cart, there stood a guy around my age with his hand on his forehead, he groaned. There was goldfish littered everywhere around him, poptarts, and monster drinks all scattered everywhere.

"Jesus lady, what is your problem??" he said not looking at me. He took his hand off his face, a big red mark was right above his right eye.

"Look" I said, my voice was shaky. "I'm sorry, I thought you were trying to hurt me or something. Here uh, let me help you." I said walking over and picking up some food.

"No just leave it, I got it." He was clearly mad at me.

I backed off, watching him pick up all his junk food. He placed the un-opened objects into his overflowing cart.

"Um, you must have a lot of money to spend." I said nodding towards his cart.

He turned to look at his cart. "Um, what do you mean."

"Uh I mean you would need a lot of money to buy all that."

The guy laughed. "Well I don't know if you realised but apparently we are the only people in this ginormous town. Maybe even country but, I still got to figure that out. And what I'm doing is, taking as much as I can to survive. Not paying crap if nobody is gonna be here to arrest me."

I rolled my eyes attempting to look as calm as he does when saying we could be the only people on earth (Maybe that's an exaggeration but still.) "So you're living off of sour patch kids and Reese's pieces?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Ha, well maybe I am taking advantage of this miracle but-"

"Miracle? You think this is a miracle?"

He looked at me as if I was some monster "Uhh yeah. It very well is." Then as if nothing happened, he started walking away, returning to his shopping spree. He was very tall (unlike me who is only 5"3.) so I had to run to catch up to him, completely ditching my cart.

"Hey! What's your name?" I asked.

"Look little girl I didn't come here to make friends. So how about you run along and continue shopping for your vegan-friendly laundry soap and paper towels."

I sighed. "For one, I'm not a little girl. I'm an adult as a matter of fact. And if you told me your name, maybe we could help eachother out."

"M'kay well I don't need help. And unfortunately I don't plan on helping you."

I stopped walking and stood there. Once he was about to turn to the next aisle I shouted. "Oh so you're one of those all-tough guys that think they can do everything themselves." He stopped and stood there not turning to look at me so I continued talking, "You know, I have a place to stay if you need somewhere to crash. And I have wifi." I said smirking.

He turned around smiling slightly, "Sepencer." He said.

"Lucy." I replied.
