-The Human Transmutation-
It all starts with the transmutation. Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric decided they'd bring their loving dead mother back with alchemy just to see her smile again.
In the process, Ed lost his left leg and right arm. Al lost his entire body.
Edward went into the gateway of truth or portal of truth whatever you wanna call it.
They believed in the law of equivalent exchange and it turned out to be true
Anyway so yeah Ed bonded his brother alphonses soul into a suit of armor and to do that he had to give up his right arm so that's why he has automail limbs
They failed of course nobody has ever successfully transmuted a soul
-After the transmutation-
Edward agreed to becoming a state alchemist which meant he'd be a dog of the military and used as a human weapon when necessary
He got automail made from his mechanic winry and pinako who was winrys grandma
-Their goal-
Ed and Al's goal at first was to find the philosophers stone so they could get their original bodies back
-The homunculi-
The homunculi wanted to use them as a human sacrafice so they weren't allowed to kill them
The homunculi are:
Wrath
Envy
Lust
Gluttony
Pride
Greed
Sloth
We're gonna talk about them in brotherhood and in the 2003 series
How their made in the 2003 series:
They're created after a human commits human transmutation. They're not really the person they were before and can be easily weakened by something related to them from their past or just in general.
Sloth was created from Ed and Al's transmutation. In her past life she was Trisha elric, their mother. She died from am epidemic or sum
Envy was created by hohenhiem (Ed and Al's dad) and Dante (hohenhiems old gf or sum idk?) In his life he died from mercury poisoning at 18. His real name is unknown to me ???
Lust was created by scars brother. She died in her past life I forgot how but yeah she was scars brothers gf or sum and died
Gluttony (unknown)
Wrath created by Izumi Curtis, Ed and Al's alchemy and combat teacher? But yeah she had a child that died when it was born or something and then that child grew up a little and the price she payed was all her organs that were used to make baby's or something and yeah wrath is the one who also owns Eds limbs now
The rest aren't rlly important

So basically in the series before the movie Ed goes to the other side of the gate which is like our world time period kinda thing so basically he's in like our normal kinda world
He doesn't see any of his old friends or anything but there are some replicas or whatever in thaat world of his old friends.
Basically in CoS envy is now like a dragon thing and yeahh
Ed finds away back to amestris his world and stuff and meets Roy and Al again and winry and then he leaves AGAIN but this time Al snuck with him and yeah their in that world forever now and leaves winry behind so he never sees winry again
