You woke up in your home and got up. You slide open the door and saw your family sitting at the table waiting for you to arrive. "There is the sleepyhead." your older sister said. "So what, Akane? I'm just a heavy sleeper." you replied. "I'm hungry." said Koharu, your younger sister. "Hi hungry, I'm dad." joked your dad, Yabashi. "Honey, that joke is getting old now." complained your mother, Chizuru. "Just like you, old man." you chuckled. Your dad looked at you and said: "I thought that I told you to pay more respect for your elders, young man." "What? Don't tell me off because I just state a fact. I mean, you'll hit the 40 soon." you said. "Let's just eat breakfast." your mom sighed. Your dad was indeed almost 40. He was a tall and handsome man of about 180 cm with (H/C) hair and blue eyes. Your mother would reach her 36th birthday this year. She was about 165 cm and had brown hair with (E/C) eyes. She a very beautiful, voluptuous woman with full lips and confident but non arrogant stride. You were 15 and had your father's hair and mother's eyes. You were just as tall as your dad gained a bit of muscle. Your younger sister was 10 and was the spitting image of your mother, minus the voluptuousness that is. Akane was 17 and looked exactly like you. This was also the reason why you were often mistaken for being twins. Just like your mother she was a beautiful young woman and got proposed to a lot, since she was still single. And so far she turned them all down, leaving her to be unmarried. But your parents were fine with it. They had to marry each other because of the pressure of their families, so they want to give you and your siblings the freedom they never had. That didn't mean that they weren't happy with each other. If you had a say in it, you would say that they loved each other a little too much. This is because your room is right next to your parent's and every single night you lay awake because they were at it again. This was also mainly the cause of your sleep deprivation and waking up late. You could get along fine with each other, since there were barely any arguments in the house. Though sometimes Akane could have one of her urges, which mostly led to awkward and embarrassing situations, with you as the victim. And today was such a day.
After you had finished breakfast you and Akane had to do the dishes. Following that you and her both had sword training by your father. That's because your family from your father's side recently became part of the demon slayer corps. They were descendants of Michikatsu Tsugikuni, who now went by the alias of Kokushibo. When he turned into a demon, his family was ordered to commit seppuku, but his son couldn't bring himself to. Leaving him as the only surviving member. He started living a normal live, but always carried with him the books about Moon Breathing. These same books were recently discovered by your great grandfather, starting training and teaching. So far no one could fully adopt the Moon Breathing techniques. Still, your family was hopeful.
So you and Akane stood opposing each other, both with a boken in your hands. You never used actual nichirin blades during sparring, to prevent any fatal injuries. Your dad was supervising from the side. He said "Start!" and the match began. She began with a horizontal slash and you blocked it. She spun 360 degrees and let her wooden sword come down straight from above. You deflected the heavy hit to your side and quickly hit her a couple of times. You clashed again and then retreated. You raised your sword over your head and took a deep breath for extra concentration, but this one felt different from a regular inhalation. You felt like all the strain and fatigue left your body and you also felt like you're faster and stronger. You ran forward and smashed your sword down onto your sister's. She didn't expect the extra force behind it and fell backwards, due to the sudden lack of resistance you also tumbled forward onto your sister with your face in her chest. "Ara ara~, I didn't know that you were this straightforward." you sister teased. Your face became redder and redder. Your dad said: "Akane, stop teasing your brother and get up." "S-shut up. I-it's just an accident." you said once you got up. "Yeah, sure." your sister said, while winking at you. "All the teasing aside, little bro, what was that?" she asked. "I would like to know too." Yabashi said. "I don't know, I just took a deep breath and all of a sudden I felt stronger and faster." you explained. "I guess it's time for the next stage of training." your father stated. "What is that?" you asked. "Breathing techniques." your dad and sister said in unison.
It's been two years since the next stage was initiated. You received your very own nichirin blade. When you hold it the blade got a pitch black backside while the front became a silver. Since then you really became proficient in the breathing techniques. Even though you couldn't adapt Moon Breathing, you developed your own breathing style called Night Breathing, which so far has 13 forms. With this you already was the best swordsman of your family, even surpassing your father. That didn't mean however, that the rest wasn't good. Akane couldn't adopt Moon or Night Breathing, so she went to take lessons from no one less than the Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku. Under his guidance she got the hang of it and was now a full fletched Flame Breath user. You suspected that your sister developed a bit of a crush on Rengoku during this time, but you haven't been able to confirm it.
Now you were standing in a clearing in the forest with a giant boulder. Your father gave you one simple assignment, otherwise you couldn't take part in the Final Selection: cut the boulder. You already tried slashing it a couple of times, but to no avail. Luckily your blade didn't sustain any damage either. That's when you saw an ever so small crack on the smooth surface of the rock. It was so small that it would be overlooked by a normal person. That's something you discovered too about yourself in those two years. That you had a very keen sense of sight. You could spot the tiniest of details from 250 meters away. You raised your sword up, above your head and took a deep breath. "Night Breathing Second Form: Skyfall." you said and smashed your sword down straight onto the crack. A lot of dust rose and you heard a loud crack. When the dust settled down you looked up to see that the boulder was perfectly split in two. "Yes! Whaho! I did it!" you exclaimed happily. The commotion you caused was picked up on by your Koharu, who was playing outside with Akane. They both came, saw what happened and began clapping. Akane did at least, Koharu ran up to you and tackled you in a hug. "You did it! You did it, Onii-chan! You did it!" she happily said over and over again. You responded with: "Yes I did it indeed, Koharu. You'll have to do that too, eventually." As your younger sister turned twelve, her training to become a Demon Slayer started. She was just getting to the basics, which was mainly getting your body in shape. Only after that the sword lessons will begin. Even though she was happy, that evening everyone was silent at the dinner table. Because they all know that the chance is high that you might never return from the Final Selection.
The next morning came and you said goodbye to your family, especially Akane as she would go on a mission with Rengoku. You then set off with your kasugai crow, whom you named Kuroikage, giving you directions on where to go.
