Prologue........

Woman, a word that seems so light yet bears so many. A mother, a word whose meaning I have recently come to know of its truth. I sought of the story behind this strong yet loving woman I've come to know as my own, my mother.

As a girl in an African home, you grow up with one major life lesson, TAKING CARE OF YOUR FAMILY. That goes from your children to your husband and even to guests. As early as possible, the girl child is ushered into the world of cooking, cleaning and nurtured to take care of her home. As they say a good home is as a result of a woman's background. That was the case back then, the girl child being downgraded to nothing but a mere housewife, her place remains the kitchen. The so called "cultural practices" that denied women of even the tiniest of enjoyment, all in a bid to place the man on top. Yes, it did govern their relationship then but as time changed so did this concept change. And within this change lies the story of my beautiful mother.

With modernization even the woman was considered a worthy candidate for studies enabling her to reach out beyond the barel minimum. It has seen that most women are now renowned doctors, engineers, pilots and even CEO'S of major companies.

Stories bring to limelight their dedication to their work and devotion to their careers but they fail to recognize that behind this there's the woman's family.
