Ash was on the way to the bathroom and overheard (eavesdropped on) Serena and Samantha's conversation. Of course we're in a relationship, Ash thought. We're best friends. And what does she mean I don't like her, in that way? What's "in that way"?

"Dinner's ready!" Serena came strolling out of the kitchen and immediately spotted Ash. She was suspicious even before asking him, "Were you eavesdropping on us?" She tried to be as nice as possible about it and shroud the nervousness in her voice.

"Umm.. No?" Ash was an awful liar. He had a certain sense of arrogance in his tone and did not sound innocent. "But Serena, what does it mean if someone says, 'I don't like her in that way'?"

Serena turned an awful shade of red, more anger in her face than embarrassment. "Ash, why did you do that? It was super private!"

Ash scratched his head. "Yeah, but you were talking about me, right?" He honestly wasn't trying to be manipulative, and he was innocent this time. And Serena thought that him being clueless could be kind of cute, sometimes..

"Serena, what's taking you this long?" Samantha said, confused.

"Samantha, what does 'I don't like her in that way' mean?" Ash approached Samantha.

"Well, you see, Ash, there's this strange thing called love, and when two people-" Samantha was interrupted when Serena covered her mouth with her hand and dragged her into the kitchen.

Ash slumped outside the kitchen and thought deeply. Serena loves me? How come I've never thought about this kind of stuff before? I've been so focused on my training and becoming a Pokemon master.. I've never actually considered this before.. Is that why Serena blushes around me sometimes? Is that why I think she's really pretty? Is that why I felt so strange at the idea of Serena and me dating? Is that why I care about her so much, why I mindlessly saved her? Do I love her, too?

While Ash considered this, Serena and Samantha were having an intense girl-talk in the kitchen. "Samantha! Why'd you have to do that?! Now he might figure out I like him!" Serena shouted at Samantha, taking a break from her normal tolerant and sweet self.

"Relax, it's okay! If he's half as clueless as you say he is, he won't figure anything out." Samantha reassured her.

"You're right. It's fine, it's okay, I'll be alright. He can't have figured it out. He must of gotten that if I'd interrupted you like that, I really didn't want him to hear what you were saying."

Throughout dinner, Serena noticed out of the corner of her eye Ash staring at her. Whenever she turned to face him, he looked away as if he hadn't been looking at all.

After dinner Ash offered to help Samantha to clear plates. "With that leg? I dont think so!" Was her argument, but he insisted.

Ash cleared his throat. "Samantha..?" He began. "Mmhm?"

"Does Serena.. Love me?" Samantha looked at him strangely. "You've got the idea. I think she's in love with you, yes."

"I think I love her, too."

"That's weird, she said that you had no clue about dating and love and that kind of thing. I guess she was wrong." She retorted.

"Well, I sort of took in what you said about her liking me 'in that way'.."

"Yeah? Good for you. Should I tell her?"

"No, but I don't know how to tell her I'm in love with her."

Samantha laughed. "You need to ask her out on a date first."

"A date?"

Samantha couldn't stop chortling. "You are seriously clueless about this! It's where two people go out alone to a restaurant and eat food, usually for dinner or something. But you have to dress nicely and be a gentleman. You could get her flowers or something."
