Evan held out his arm for me to take. I took a deep breath giving him a small nod. He nodded in return. We were both nervous about the next few hours. His dad was not going to like that we were going to go to Shadow Night together. We had to go to dinner first and then we would get ready for the night.
"Where are your knives?" he glanced down. I smiled up at him lifting my dress to show him my thigh. "Of course you would,"
I had a thigh halter on with two knives.
Dinner would be held downstairs. I grasped his arm firmly as we walked downstairs. There were others walking down the stairs. Lydia and Eric were waiting for us. Lydia was wearing a gold gown. Eric was also wearing a black tuxedo.
Heads were turning to us. I could hear the whispering and the looks weren't helping.
"This is going to be so much fun," I replied under my breath.
"Yeah it is," he waved at his sister, Selena. Her face hardened. It really said it all. I didn't bother hiding my dislike for her either. His sister was wearing a gorgeous skin-showing silver dress. She looked absolutely stunning.
The lights were dimmed down low but I could see faces, glancing back at us. I was now self-conscious. Christopher and Uther appeared together. They had matching flowers pinned to their jackets.
"You look nice," Uther answered, holding out his hand for me take. "The dress suits you," he twirled me around.
"Hi," Christopher gave me a one-armed hug. His eyes flickered to Evan who was standing awkwardly. He seemed out of place. "You look great,"
"Thank you, you guys look nice." I told them with a smile. I couldn't help flicking my eyes up to Evan who was staring down at me. For some reason, I got nervous.
"You are more than welcome to have dinner with us," Lydia told Evan who seemed surprised by the words. Even I was shocked but knew they were trying to be overprotective.
"Sure," Evan smiled back politely. I nudged him slightly trying to not laugh at his awkwardness. We would have a few words and then start dinner. The Houses were spread across the dining hall. The Trackers sat next to each other in the far corner. The only one that sat down at our table and our side was Evan.
It was extraordinarily awkward. The only one that talked to him was Uther. It seemed like they were friends but that was probably because he was Bennett's boyfriend. Lydia and Eric didn't acknowledge him. I thought they were going to send him back to the Trackers to get dinner.
"Are you guys ready?" Uther asked the both of us. Evan seemed hesitant to eat. He probably thought his food has been poisoned by Lydia. On the other hand, I was eating. Tonight was going to be a long night and I was going to need as much energy as possible.
"It will be fun," I answered with a shrug. "And I'm excited to go kill some vampires," I turned to Evan who was nodding rather woodenly. He was nervous in front of Lydia and Eric. That was interesting to me. Evan didn't seem the type to be nerved by anybody.
"Do you guys know which borough you will be going to?" Lydia's eyes said it all. She did not like Evan at all. She wouldn't stop glaring at him.
"Manhattan has the richer vampires," Evan cleared his throat not lifting his eyes up from the table. "They will be out partying all night. And I'm sure your arrival is either going to rouse them or send them scurrying,"
"I think we can just roam around New York City," I answered with a shrug. They wanted to know where we were going to be so they could keep an eye on him. "Its Friday night so they will come out to play."
