I was in PEI for a week and when I got there the scenery was absolutely beautiful! I go rent a bike and bike from Charlottetown to Brackley and it was smooth biking, for the first couple of days I just cruised around the country side, I visited green gables and avonlea. On the third day I wanted to see how far I could get and by lunch I had biked quite a distance so I decided to turn around so I would be back at my hostel by night fall.
Now one thing that no one really warned me about was how quickly storms came in... The sky went from a beautiful clear blue to thick dark clouds. I could hear thunder rolling in the distance. I didn't know how far until the next town so I picked up my speed and tried to out ride the storm with my bike, but that was a waste of energy. The rain came on hard and it wasn't long I was dripping wet and my backpack was soaked through, all my extra clothes were wet as well...
But I kept peddling, I had to reach the top of the hill in front of me. To keep my speed I stood up to peddle but my foot slipped and skinned the side of my leg, fortunately not deep enough for any damage. I got off of my bike and started hobbling up the hill. My leg was throbbing and I was cold and wet. I nearly made it up the hill when a pickup truck drove past me and stopped just ahead of my path. An elderly woman got out and asked me over the rain if I needed a lift, great full for the offer she helped me put the bike in the back and we both hurried inside the cab. I thanked her for saving me from the storm, and she asked where I was headed to.
I told her I needed to get back to my hostel in brackley but she refused to drive me there, she told me that the storm had just started and it would go all night, and the worst part was yet to come. She told me that I would spend the night at her place. I didn't argue with her, she seemed like a nice woman, and she reminded me of my friends mother so I accepted her gesture of kindness.
We got to her house and I was amazed! Her house was a two story ranch house with a stable across the yard and I'm guessing they hold horses. She parked the pickup in the garage and she took my bike out of the back and put it next to the wall. I then followed her through a door that opened up to a covered wrap around patio. She opened the front door and an older man came into the room and welcomed his wife home,
The woman told the man I was washed in from the storm and he welcomed me open armed in his home. But I was still dripping wet, the man got me a towel and the woman went to the kitchen, I stood there just amazed at there House it was so nice and homey. The woman gestured me to follow her up the stairs, she told me about her daughter who got married a few years ago and she still had some of her clothes in her old room. She pointed out the washroom down the hall and set some clothes on the counter, she told me to warm up with a nice hot shower then when I was ready I was to come down stairs for dinner.
I did as she said and the shower felt amazing on my cold shivering body. Her towels were as soft as cashmere and the clothes she laid out for me was a black sweat pants and a plain blue T-shirt, and a pair of the softest socks I've ever put on my feet. I dried my hair with the towel the best I could and I left my wet clothes in a basket she had left in her daughters room.
I went down to the kitchen to find the old couple sitting at the dinner table, but they weren't there alone, there was a young man with them, he seemed to be a couple of years older than me, tanned skin, he must work outside a lot, that would explain his very nice build, he had short brown hair, and as I approached the table I noticed his warm brown eyes and charming sweet smile. My heart skipped a beat.
I stood there, I didn't know what to do. The woman giggled and introducing introduced me to him, he was there only son, they only had two children. He welcomed me and got up and walked around the table and pulled out a chair for me to sit in, afterwards he returned to his seat right across from me. And he gave me the sweetest smile, I could feel my cheeks burn and my heart skipped another beat
