"What do you think, Parrish?"
I forced my eyes open at the sound of my name, groaning after remembering I was at work. The room drowned in silence as everyone stared at me curiously, waiting on an answer.
I cleared my throat as I fixed my posture, crossing my hands in front of me as I spoke. "I think we should assign someone else to this case. It's way beyond any of y'all abilities to solve this, we've been at it for 4 months and haven't gotten anywhere." I finished, receiving eye rolls and scoffs as my colleagues voiced their disapproval.
The door sounded as it opened slowly, revealing an overdressed beauty who's eyes darted around the room curiously.
I watched the smirk play on my bosses face as he introduced her. "I'm glad you feel that way Parrish. This is Ms. Fenty, your new partner on this case." He smiled. Her eyes widened as she slowly made her way over to me, holding her hand out as she waited for me to accept it.
"What?!" I yelled standing up, completely ignoring the woman below me. My head shook rapidly as I pointed around the room. "Anyone. You could've picked anyone in here, and you picked me?!" I yelled, feeling annoyed by this whole situation.
"Like you said. It's way beyond any of our abilities to solve the case. You're the smartest detective here Parrish." He finished, sitting the green eyed woman down as he motioned for everyone else to leave the room.
My breathing spiked uncontrollably as I thought of a way out of this. How the fuck am I supposed to work on a case about me and not get caught?
"Look, sir. I appreciate the fact that you think highly of me, but I really think you could've used anyone else for the job." I voiced, hoping for some type of sympathy from him.
"This isn't an option Parrish, take the job or get fired. These killings are out of control and this person needs to be stopped. Meet me in my office in 5." He finished, storming off as he slammed the door.
You've got to be kidding me.
I kicked the chair around as I hit my head repeatedly, trying to wake up from this nightmare. "So you're dramatic? Nice to know" she spoke, sliding her fingers up and down her pants as she looked at me.
"Excuse me?" I questioned, turning my body as I walked to the table slowly in an attempt to intimidate her. Her eyes stayed on mine, even as I stood in front of her with a smile on my face.
"I'd stop speaking if I were you." I warned, watching her stand up slowly as she closed the gap between us. "I'm so scared." She laughed, grabbing her coat as she walked out the room.
"Ok." I shook my head with a chuckle. "Have it your way." I mumbled, following her out as I checked the time.
My hands reached for the doorknob as she waited for me to open the door for her. "After you." I gritted, opening the door wider as she walked through.
My eyes stayed forward, ignoring the hole the green eyed beauty was staring into the side of my head.
I waited for the call my boss was on to end as she took a seat, purposely stepping on my foot as she slowly walked by.
"Really?" I chuckled, watching her straight face turn into a confused one. I looked down at my feet and then back to her with an amused look on my face.
"Oh. Oops." She smiled.
"Ladies." My boss voiced, raising his eyebrows.
"I'll do it." I sighed. A smile crept on his face as he grabbed a stack of papers. "This is everything we have on the case, figure it out." He pleaded, handing me the papers.
A firm nod was given from me as I turned around and walked out the door, heading to my office, she followed behind me like a lost puppy. "What you wanna start on first?" She questioned, taking the papers out my hands as she read over it.
"I know everything there is to possibly know in them papers." I spoke as I walked over to my coat that hung from the back of the chair, sliding it across my shoulders as I adjusted it around me. "How is that?" She questioned again, suspicion laced in her voice.
"Studied it." I smirked, opening the door to my office as I held up my keys. "Let's go for a drive." I suggested, crossing one foot over the other as I waited on her answer.
She went through her phone for a bit as if she was texting someone before walking ahead of me outside. "Here." I voiced, stopping in front of my car as I unlocked the door. Her head whipped around as she hesitantly walked over to the car.
"I don't bite." I joked as my phone rang. I held up my hand as I walked some distance before answering the call.
"Keh?" She asked, waiting on a response. "Yea, wassup?" I questioned, keeping an eye on the woman in my car. "I found him, not too far from where you are. We can go now." She spoke eagerly.
"No, later. I'm working right now." I hung up, flashing an apologetic smile as I got in the car. Her hands rubbed her legs repeatedly as she stared out the window. I decided not to speak, opting for the radio instead. "Where we going?" She asked slowly.
"Suspect number 1."
