Rain was suddenly 11 again, standing in front of her mother. Short, choppy white hair, and blood on her clothes, “They deserved it, it was ours,”
In her little hands, she held a spear that was made out of some sort of red material. The tip of it was designed to resemble a flame, and the gem set in the middle was gold. Holding it made power surge through her body, and send tingles down her spine.
“Revenge isn’t the only answer. It hasn’t been in the Incendio family for generations. How did you even get in?” Her mother chided, taking a wet cloth and washing her face.
“I fought my way through, this is what had to happen mom. They told me,” Rain answered, turning away from the cloth.
“Who told you?”
“War,” Rain answered, looking away.
“Oh, honey,” Her mother said, hugging her, “War can’t save you now,”
Rain sat up, breathing heavily. She looked around, and realized that she had fallen asleep in the library. The moon was full in the sky, shining through the library window.
She sat up, put her book away, and set herself on her mission.
She marched upstairs, past her room, and straight to Martin’s. She didn’t bother to knock.
“Martin, I need to go back,”
Martin was sitting on his bed, a book in his hands. He wore a simple nightshirt, and had his brown hair loose around his shoulders, “Back?”
“Cleric Territory. I need to go back. I need answers,” Rain started pacing.
“Answers? What happened?” Martin got up, leaving his book sprawled out on the bed.
“I was worried about what happened this afternoon, so I went to do some research! That’s why I wasn’t at dinner. I fell asleep while reading and had this dream about this dude who called himself ‘War’ and he told me that I was Calamity and that it was all I’d ever know, and that the fates have already declared it or whatever, and then my mom was there scolding me for stealing the Tongue of the Dragon, and I need to go to Cleric Council because my friend Selshi is an oracle and can help me see what the Fates have planned!”
Martin stared at Rain while she caught her breath, and walked over to her, “Will this help with the Elemental?”
Rain was in tears at this point, and wiped her eyes, “Yes, I think it will,”
Martin bit his lip, and turned away. The thought of consulting an oracle unsettled him, but nonetheless, he needed the Element.
“Very well,” He said, turning back to her, “I will send out a messenger tonight immediately, though I think it will be suspicious if you leave Lancer Territory. We will have her come here in a normal coach so as to not let them know anything is wrong. We can’t tell the people we’re having trouble with the Element, understand?”
Rain was taken aback by the sudden secretive nature of Martin, but said nothing of it, “I understand, thank you,”
“Anything for y-” Martin stopped himself, and cleared his throat, “Anything for Lancer Territory. Are you okay?”
Rain wiped her face again, “I’m just a bit frazzled,”
“That’s understandable. Would you like to stay here tonight?”
Rain let out a nervous laugh, “What?”
“I mean nothing inappropriate. Just in case you don’t feel safe. I can sleep on the sofa, and you may have the bed,” Martin explained, “It is up to you,”
