Music blasted loudly from the car's radio, Joel rocking out to it. Lucas, also known as Speedy, had an annoyed look on his face as they zoomed past other cars, trying to locate the nearest Gas Station.

"Will you turn it down, asshole?" Lucas demanded, giving a scowl to his friend.

"Do you know who this is?" Joel asked, eyebrows raised and surprise in his eyes as he turned the knob and glanced to Speedy.

"No, I don't, but I have a feeling you're gonna tell me," replied Lucas sarcastically, rolling his blue eyes.

"It's fucking Bob Segar! Seriously, don't you know anything?" Joel turned into the gas station, pulling up to the pump.

"You can come back, baby, but Rock N' Roll never forgets!" sang Joel as he grabbed his wallet and hopped out of the car.

Lucas gave a long sigh as he too exited the car. Joel made his way into the buildings, most likely to buy some snacks and drinks. "Fine, guess I'll pay for the gas." Lucas grumbled as he put the pump into the car and stood under the shade.

He watched the sun sink as the gasoline poured into the car through the hose. Joel seemed to be inside for an exaggerated amount of time, but Lucas paid for the gas and slipped back into the passenger seat of the car. Nervousness started to affect him as each minute continued to tick by. Where the hell was Joel? They had to be in the city and to their safe place before the start of the Purge. The thought of being stuck during the Purge terrified him.

By this time, his nerves had gotten the best of him. He jumped out of the car and dashed into the store. His head swiveled around, looking for his best friend as the cashier gave him weird looks. Lucas' heart was racing, and he began to think the worst, when Joel walked out from the men's bathroom. He spotted Speedy and waved, giving a half smile.

"You alright man?" Joel wrapped his arm around Speedy's shoulders, in his other hand, a bag full of snacks. Shaking his head, the two headed back to the car. Feeling slightly better, Lucas just shrugged off the topic as best he could. "You take too fucking long, what did you have to do, your make-up too?" Joel made a face at him, but gave a small laugh. Starting up the car once again, he pulled out of the Gas Station's parking lot and headed for the city.

"Holy shit, look at the traffic up there," Joel said, whistling lowly as he eyed the road ahead. Lucas looked up from his phone -Twitter was filled with Tweets about the Purge- and looked at the traffic as well. "Get off at the next exit and we'll find another way home," he shrugged, looking back down to his phone.

Taking Speedy's advice, Joel got off on the exit they had almost passed. He turned onto an unfamiliar street and drove down it slowly. Lucas made a comment to him that if he doesn't go faster, they'll be stuck in the Purge, and then he sped up.

Cruising down the road, Lucas clutched his phone tightly in his hands. Time seemed to go by faster and faster, as if the world truly wanted to wreak havoc on his and Joel's lives today and get them killed. Joel cast a glance to his uneasy friend. He knew exactly what he was thinking at that very moment and now felt guilty about taking a long time at the Gas Station.

"Take it easy." Joel told Speedy as he took a left. "We're gonna get there in no time." But even he could tell that his own voice was filled with uncertainty. Night time was drawing close and he could already see houses safely locked up, or people carrying guns. "Can you go-"

"I'm going as fast as I fucking can!" Joel was now clutching the steering wheel in almost a death grip, Lucas' panicked mood making him start to panic as well. "Please just shut the fuck up and let me drive." Tension still hung in the air as the car went silent again. Speedy crossed his arms over his chest, chewing on his bottom lip nervously. The sound of people yelling outside and the low sunlight wasn't helping any. Joel took various turns as they headed through the city, and he knew that they were probably lost at this point. Of course he wasn't going to tell Lucas that.
