———I SLUNG MYSELF over the thin yellow bar like a coat, looking down the tunnel vision of the six flights of stairs we took 30 minutes to climb up. However, the appreciation for a seemingly long half an hour was inevitable, because although it felt like everyone was crawling over each other with no room to liberate their breaths, this was the least busiest the waterpark has been. It's attractions were magnets to tourists, families, and of course, children, visiting from across the country, filling the park up to an overflowing, overwhelming amount of people.
I let my body balance on the edge, my feet dangling on the secure side as I peered down to the small-looking people below, scattering across the pools in a hurry. We watched as occasionally a yellow tube full of people came rushing through the end of the slide.
"Y/N, stop doing that!" yelled F/N grabbing onto the railing with one hand and clenching B/Ns hand with the other. Her fear of heights faded, though never fully diminished, when she was securely in the slide, but climbing up was always the most difficult for her.
Though i'd know best not to worry her any more than she already was, I chose to stretch over one more time. I searched for something new, though i'd known nothing would change. The family by the kiddie pools would take a couple steps forward. The couple in the hot tub would soon make their exit. The girls in the pool would swim in further from the edge.
My hair was soaked from the continuously getting on the slides, dripping down on to the wooden planks that held me up from the ground. Nearby, a life guard grabbed the now empty tubes from his guests and pushed it into a large conveyor belt, which pulled it back up six flights of tall stairs to the very top to seat its next couple riders.
He bopped his head to an unmatched beat, one that didn't fit with the song blasting over the loud speaker or one he'd listen to through his nonexistent headphones. Instead, only he felt the delusive beat throughout his body, a rhythm only he understood. Through the humid air of the waterpark and the long hours he spent on his feet doing the same repeated job, he found a way to enjoy it.
Something about his determination was attracting, a trait I longed to express myself. I noticed his [hair color] hair bouncing with every bop of his head, his eyebrows furrowing to the overbearing beat.
Another life guard suddenly appeared beside him, handing him a cold water bottle. The ice once frozen around the plastic began to drip from the humidity, creating a small puddle next to him.
Thanking his coworker, the life guard smiled and revealed his flashy white teeth in gratitude. His lips tugged into a toothy grin pulled all the way up to into large apple-like dimples. His body glistened from the sweat dripping down his chest and shoulders. It slid down to his bright red shorts, that fit tight around his thighs but snug around his waist. Ashy black tattoos curved around his legs, twisted into winding patterns following his bursting veins that ran up his calves.
I raised a finger at the man and gently nudged B/Ns shoulder, which made F/N, who clung to her like a leech, flash me a fearful look.
"Stop that!" she whined.
"What do you think of that guy over there?" I asked, ignoring her comment. She squinted down, her eyes quickly gauging back open at the sight of the boys bright smile. B/N followed her gaze, nodding along.
