Today, or tonight, was my first night shift. To be honest, I already started to regret my decision, but not entirely, as the raise in the salary was a little nice. The thing that bothered me the most was that I had to split the work with Vanessa. I could describe Vanessa as a person who: doesn't talk much, isn't too keen with the kids, and prefers to keep to herself.
I groaned.
This was going to be a long night.
When I arrived at the parking lot, I didn't have to worry about finding a good place to park. So, being a rational human-being, I chose the place that's closest to the entrance. I turned off my 1958 Plymouth Fury(a car I had received as a gift from my friend Steve), and walked slowly to the enormous building.
"Here goes nothing." I murmured to myself as I pulled the knob and stepped inside. Families of all sizes were putting on their jackets and some were already walking to the exit. Above me, the PA system came to life.
"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, please proceed to the main entrance. We hope you had a pleasant stay here at Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex and we hope to see you again tomorrow. Freddy and his friends are tired from the show and need proper Fazz-rest."
Fazz-rest? Pfft. How cheesy can they get?
I watched as many customers walked toward the entrance to exit the building. Some of them wore the merch we sell in the merch shop while others carried plushies of the characters. Others left with nothing. I don't blame them, these prices are outrageous.
Thanks to the crowd exiting, I made it to the Employee's Lounge way faster than it would have taken me during the day. When I got there I saw Blake already clocking out. The door smacking against the door frame caught his attention. A grin appeared on his face.
"Yo, wassup bro?" he asked in his sly, confident voice.
"Nothing much. Leaving so soon?"
"Yeah. I have an appointment to the club with Amy," he said.
"Alright, have a good night." I waved back as he headed towards the door.
He stopped and faced me. "Yeah, same to you. Enjoy your date with Vanessa!" he chuckled before leaving.
I chuckled, "As if I'd ever go on a date with her."
"And what's wrong with me?" An offended voice asked.
Shit.
I turned around to see an annoyed Vanessa sitting in one of the chairs with her arms crossed, staring at me with emerald-green eyes that warned you're dead.
"What?"
"Don't act dumb. You said, 'As if I'd ever go on a date with her.'. And I'd like to know, your Majesty, what precisely is wrong with me that doesn't make me worthy of your approval?"
"I..uh-"
She leaped up from the chair and started to get close. Real close. She was now standing right in front of me, her being all up on my face."Better question, what the hell are you doing at this time or the day? It's closing time."
Mr Schmidt didn't tell her?
"Well?" she tapped her foot impatiently.
I took a step back and cleared my throat, "I-I'm here to accompany you on your night shifts."
She did not like that response.
"What?!" she eyed me. After a few seconds of dead silence she continued, "I know pretty damn well that you didn't choose this because you're a 'nice' person. Who told you?"
