Claudia watched as Addie leaned closer to the mirror, Kleenex in hand. She swiped the tissue under her eyes, effectively removing the black smeared there, and dabbed her eyes delicately. Then she reached into her makeup bag, which had been set on the bathroom counter, and pulled out several bottles and brushes. Claudia came closer to examine them, and Addie gave her a sideways glance.
"You don't know much about makeup, do you," she said. It was a statement, not a question, phrased bluntly the way Addie usually spoke. Claudia looked at herself in the mirror. The only makeup she was wearing was a thin coat of mascara. She swiftly pulled her long, thick brown hair in front of her shoulders in two pieces, smoothing it down and then pulling at a few strands to make it messier. She pursed her lips and turned to Addie, who was scrutinizing her face.
"No, I really don't," Claudia admitted. She picked up one of Addie's bottles from the counter and turned it in her hand, marveling at the smoothness of the bottle. The liquid inside was a little bit lighter than Addie's skin tone.
Addie playfully pried the bottle from Claudia's hand and twisted the cap off, then dipped a small brush into it. She dabbed underneath her eyes, smoothing out the harsher spots with her fingertip, and turned to Claudia. She tapped the bottle. "This is concealer. I'm using it underneath my eyes to hide the redness and the fact that I was up way too late last night." She laughed. "See, I'm giving you a makeup tutorial! 'How to cover the fact that you just randomly burst into tears in front of your new friends, who probably think you are a psycho!'"
Claudia giggled. "I don't think you're psycho," she teasingly reassured.
They spent the next few minutes chatting and laughing as Addie both refreshed her makeup from crying and taught Claudia a few makeup tricks. "I'm going to have to give you a makeover one of these days," she said as they picked up their backpacks from the bathroom floor. They bell had just rung.
"Oh, I know!" Addie exclaimed as they stepped out and into the school hall. "Homecoming! Oh, it'll be so much fun! I'll give you a total makeover! Every boy in the school will drop dead when they see you arrive!" she squealed.
Claudia couldn't help but share in Addie's contagious enthusiasm. This felt right, to be having fun and making plans for makeovers and school dances. It felt almost normal.
Maybe Claudia would be able to stand this school after all.

A/N: Omg, I'm sorry for the short chapter -if you can even call this a chapter! I just had to get that out -establishing Claudia and Addie's friendship even more, and incorporating some girliness in as well!!! I think Claudia needed some of that.
