The rain pelted on the outside of the tall and wide windows of the dark office, shielding a view from many floors down. The two computer screen's lit up the faces of a man and woman late at work. The woman had deep blue eyes that shone against the yellow glare and looked up at the man when she thought he wasn't looking. The man was deeply in love with the woman but pretended not to notice her gaze. He was struggling with what he had to accomplish and his feelings for her.
"Logan?"
He looked up immediately, "Yes? What is it?"
She smiled, "Can you come help me please?"
He sat up from his chair too quickly and stumbled on his way to her, "Of course Suzie."
He came by her side slowly and placed his hand on her shoulder to peer over her.
"This part of the program was never explained to me, do you understand it?"
He noticed the time on the screen and his heart clenched, "Yes, of course," he squeaked.
He wheeled over the closest chair and sat beside her. His hands moved swiftly on the keyboard and she leaned into him to get a closer look. He tried not be affected by her closeness but he was only a man.
"Logan? What's that on the screen?"
They turned to each other in question at the same time and were taken aback at how few centimetres were between them. Her breathing hitched and as he slowly lowered his face towards her, a gruesome zombie grew larger in the reflection of the computer screen. Logan's eyes widened in knowing and he tackled Suzie out of the way until he lay atop her on the floor.
Suzie was blushing madly up at him, "Logan, I didn't expect you to..."
Her words were cut off when Logan was thrown off her and a horrible zombie took his place. Suzie screamed in the grotesque face and desperately crawled backwards from the monster. It had her by the neck when Logan stood atop them and swung his blade at the deformed creature. Blood sprayed on the crying girl and the severed head rolled slowly away, until it stopped at the foot of a horde of zombies on the other side. Low groans from the dead beings reverberated in the now seemingly tiny room. It was all Logan could do but to pull the sobbing woman behind him as he ran for the staircase. He couldn't kill them all he decided, not when Suzie was in danger.
Logan dodged desks and chairs with precision and Suzie was being dragged behind this fast man. When she was grabbed from behind by a degrading hand, this man turned and pulled out a hidden gun and killed the ugly thing with a swiftness and accuracy that shocked her out of her state.
"Logan! What's going on?!"
"I can't explain right now!"
He tugged her in front of the staircase and shoved her in front of him.
"Go Suzie!"
"But..."
"Go!!"
Logan left her at the staircase and threw himself back into the mob of moaning corpse's and she watched helplessly as the man she loved risked his life. She turned from him and dragged her hand down the railing deeper into the staircase with the sounds of gunshot echoing behind her. She was wiping falling tears from her cheeks when she walked onto the 19th floor. Her heels clicked on the marble floor and she passed posters of magazines and celebrities. Her breath came out in white puffs and a sudden chill had her rubbing her arms, and then the lights flickered above her. She halted in her steps and peered over her shoulder.
A door creaked open slowly and it emitted light and sound into the still corridor. Shadowed figures seemed to reach across her on the floor and she stumbled backwards until she hit an elevator. She fumbled behind her quickly until she heard a ding. Her world tilted and she fell backwards into the lift. She lifted her legs quickly when the doors started to close and terror gripped her the same time something gripped her bare leg.
She shrieked and kicked out frantically.
"Stop! You mad woman!"
Her legs froze in the air and she looked into the shadowed faces of a man and woman of business attire as they squinted at her in disgust. Her cheeks bloomed and she quickly lowered her legs and smoothed out her skirt.
She looked around her dumbly, "I um..."
The woman coughed at her pointedly and Suzie scrambled to her feet. She moved to the wall of the elevator and the superior pair walked in with a huff. The man's moustache twitched agitatedly when she rolled her eyes, looking left of the man. There she saw Logan and she straightened against the wall, excited and relieved to see him.
The couple watched the new stranger with suspicion and halted in pressing any of the buttons.
Logan ducked his head stepping into the elevator both hands on the side of the wall, his chest moving fast up and down. His head snapped to the nicely dressed people by the board and his eyes darkened.
"Why are you still here!?"
They stepped back shocked and the man rested his hand on his woman, "Why how dare you..."
They cowered when Logan's face came too close. He peered at their badges with a raised eyebrow, "John? Karen?"
He moved to full height and gestured, "Why don't you move from the board please?"
Karen looked to John for him to defend them and sulked when he didn't look at her, steering them to the back of the elevator. Suzie watched them moved past her smiling sadly; they didn't understand what was going on. She looked down her eyebrows crossed, she didn't even understand.
The sliver doors slid closed with a soft thud after Logan removed his hand from the control panel. He ignored Karen and John when he stood in front of Suzie and tilted her face to look up at him. Old elevator music began playing and they smiled at each other.
