"i am very happy you decided to join us for dinner, my love

"i am very happy you decided to join us for dinner, my love. do you prefer homemade pizza or your favourite pasta?" my mom dragged me into the kitchen after dad and me finished talking about his plans for me. learning how to aim and shoot, how to leave no traces behind you, silent approaching. i can't even remember everything he said.

but what stayed in my mind was his last statement:

"don't tell jake."

i didn't quite have a clue why, but i promised him anyway. jake doesn't have to know about every single detail about my life and if my father insists on keeping this whole thing private, so be it.

"i think we should treat ourselves today. let's eat pizza then."

"good choice! one of our newest cooks knows a lot about the italian kitchen. sit back with your dad, i'll join you shortly."

hyewon, 6:24
i'll come home later than usual.
don't wait for me, alright? <3

jake scoffed at the message he just got. "don't wait for me my ass, i've been looking for her ever since lunch break started or so." he proceeded to take a huge sip of his whiskey before groaning annoyedly.

"hey, at least she responded. don't be such a dramatic crybaby and stop drinking. you're already drunk as hell.", jay snarled and hid the big bottle somewhere else. sunghoon agreed with a nod: "we're here! pay attention to us!"

"don't wanna.", the drunk one blabbered, giggling like a fool, "should we get fried chicken?"

"huh? hyewon left us a whole ass dinner in the fridge.", jay said as he stood in front of the food. hoon's eyes sparkled once he heard his friend: "what did she leave? she's such a good cook, what has she prepared?"

jongseong proceeded to place three plates on the kitchen counter: "let's see. first up, we have those little dumplings from the supermarket. maybe this is supposed to be an appetiser? next, sweet and sour chicken with sesame. look, she even prepared fried rice with chives and vegetables!"

sunghoon noticed a note fixed on the fridge, gasping as he read it:

"it's been a year since you introduced me to your parents and asked me if you can be my boyfriend. i actually wanted to celebrate a bit with you, but you seem to be busy with work. i tried to cook the dish your mom cooked back then, but i have no idea whether it turned out great or not.

don't overwork yourself, alright?

p.s.: i bought your favourite ice cream. it's in the freezer."

"oh, jake fucked up big time.", jay commented, "i feel bad now, i don't want to eat the food when i know it has a special meaning, but not for me."

"i want wine!", jake suddenly exclaimed from the living room. "i'm still asking myself how such a jerk could pull off someone like hyewon.", sunghoon shook his head in disappointment.

in the end, the two parks gave up and devoured the food after warming it up. sunghoon had trouble putting jake to bed beforehand, he just couldn't deal with the drunk state anymore. all they wanted was to eat in peace, but that noisy home wrecker kept on shouting random things throughout the entire apartment.

"thanks again, haruto. i hope you'll get home safely.", i thanked my driver and proceeded to bow after getting out of the car, which he returned as always. "no need to thank me, ms. lee. have a good night."

jazz music was playing in the lobby and voices could be heard from the bar in the building. it was a typical rich night out.

"good evening, miss lee. did you have a good time with your parents?", jeongwoo immediately asked as he spotted me. i could only laugh at the bodyguard's behaviour, letting him accompany me to the elevators. "it did go well. seems like i'll be having my first day as a mafia member soon."

"miss, you already look like a one. the black dress and your posture are giving me 'rich mysterious woman' vibes!"

"sometimes i am really surprised how my father didn't fire you yet. he usually doesn't like mood makers." i giggled, which he responded to with a shrug. the bell interrupted our little conversation, signalising we have arrived at the destined floor already.

"im looking forward to seeing your progress in our team, lee. but for the meantime, the rest of us will protect you as well as we can." with that, he bowed to me and took the elevator in order to get back to his position.

as usual, i put in the password and entered the apartment, wondering why so many lights were still on.

just then, i spotted hoon and jay at the kitchen counter, washing the dishes and chatting along. "hey, you two!", i greeted them with a grin, waving like a fool. "won!", sunghoon smiled and approached me in seconds.

"god, where have you been? we were worrying about you!" "exactly, you've been scaring the shit out of us.", jay joined and patted my head.

"i was simply visiting my parents. it's been a while and i thought i'd maybe show up again to remind them they still have a daughter here.", i chuckled, "where's jake?"

"that maniac drank half of a whiskey bottle and opened up a bottle of white wine. i brought him to bed like a little kid, he's sleeping peacefully in his room now."

"i see. thank you very much for taking care of him, i should have texted you or something. sorry for leaving you in the dark."

"we're sorry for that dinner you prepared. you must have been quite excited, right?" jay gave me a tight hug and i just shrugged: "hmph, who cares. i'm full now."

"we ate the food if that makes you feel better.", sunghoon exclaimed, "it was very delicious, especially the chicken."

the three of us broke out in laughter, which brightened up my mood immediately. after a short while, they bid me goodbye and left. luckily they tidied everything up so that i just needed to get ready for bed.
