It really isn't everyday you help out the volleyball club, hell you didn't even enjoy volleyball. You were literally a player for the basketball team. Yet here you are, in the gym with some girl named Yachi, a first year.
" Stop shaking so much, I can handle the heavy lifting, just make sure the dumbass boys don't get in the way" You mustered out, a heavy sigh escaping your lips as you started picking up equipment. You had gotten used to carrying heavy things, many times the basketball team would forget something important or your teammates would leave you with all the chores. Which you didn't mind, being alone and working out was always a bonus. And with the extra training, one day you really believed you'd become a perfect defense member.
" A-are you sure? I can ask Hinata and the others to hel-"
" I am sure, do not ask that tangerine for help, hell I don't want to see that annoying little fruit even near me" You finally say, it's not like you hated the 1st year. Hell you just didn't like how much energy he had. He was a whole year younger than you, yet acted like he was a 5 year old on redbull and some kind of magic. Soon another sigh found itself leaving your lips as you started carrying out the poles and chairs, you decided it was best not to involve yourself in any of their lives. You were only doing this because your cousin Noya asked, and you decided that arguing with Noya was a no go zone. So whenever he needed help, you helped because if he started complaining at school then you'd never get a chance of quiet time.
" ....." You heard static as you started setting up the court, your mind was absent once again, maybe it was time to actually invest in headphones. Yet you weren't sure if they'd be useful, in practice you always have to listen and be ready for anything. But buying them would secure your chance at having peace and quiet when walking home with Noya, or when you're at home studying and your parents are having another karaoke night with their friends over.
" Hey" A voice suddenly snapped you back to reality. Bright orange was what met you, hell too fucking bright if you were being honest.
" You, I told Yachi to not let me be bugged by you of all people. Did she even listen to me?" You scoffed, setting down the net you were once holding, your eyes trailing towards the lad, he truly was shorter than you, well not by much but shorter for sure.
" She did, but I wanted to talk to my senpai, the one who's always ignoring me in the halls." He said, his voice rather chipper yet the look in his eyes could kill. He looked mildly confused and happy at the same time, which pissed you off even more.
" I am not ignoring you, I just don't have interest in a volleyball player who's a year younger than me, besides it's not like we have much in common. Noya is my cousin, that is literally the only reason I am here." You said, your words cold and set in stone, you didn't mean to sound like such an ass, but you were already annoyed with the fact he was here, and even more annoyed with the fact he was just standing in your way.
" You say that, but you help out even without Noya being here, you help out all the time, it kinda is like, you like the volleyball team just are a weirdo about it huh?" Hinata said in such a way that you were starting to mentally prepare yourself. You were gonna punch him, you were gonna punch this first year for pissing you off, no you were gonna throw him.
" I do not like volleyball, I am literally on the basketball team you fucking tangerine. I am only helping, I swear, because I don't want to listen to Noya bitch and moan about how difficult it is." You said, soon you started walking towards him, until you had to stare down at him, your eyes staring straight into his hazel-brown eyes. He only smiled even wider before pointing his finger at you.
" Lying, it doesn't get you anywhere! I can tell you're lying, like Bakayama, you both are terrible liars" he shouted, his eyes never once leaving you as he started walking away. Yet your hand quickly snatched his shoulder. He really was trying to piss you off, who would've thought the innocent tangerine of the Karasuno volleyball team was quite the piece of work.
" I am not lying! I am just doing this because I want to!" You shouted, your eyes scanning him before he quickly gasped and pretended to be shocked.
" So it really isn't for Noya then! Oh my gosh, then it must be because you care about us and this team!" He said in a delighted and cocky tone. The same kind of tone he used when you first met, when he caught your basketball mid-air and apologized for taking it when you were practicing. The same tone you had gotten used to whenever you ignored him in the halls and he would try to call out to you, either to annoy you or to truthfully get your attention somehow
" It's because I am trying to figure out what your deal is" You finally shouted, your eyes squinting and your cheeks puffing up as you got angry. It wasn't like Hinata would have any purpose in your life, yet you always found yourself in his circle, or in his day. Passing the hallways, going to practice, hell even going to the store, he was somehow there. In your way, in your day, in your mind and it made you so annoyed. Because he wasn't some guy worth remembering, he was a first year volleyball player who was shorter than even Noya, who was reckless and somehow still made it his mission to piss you off.
" Figure out what?? I haven't really done anything to you or even remotely involved you" He scoffed, his arms crossing over each other as he stared at you with anger.
" Bullshit, you've been bugging me at lunch for a whole month. You will not stop bumping me in the hallway as if you expect me to pay attention. Or when you showed up at the grocery store when I was there?" You finally shouted, your anger boiling up as you wanted to punch him. Hell you wanted to throw him in the volleyball nets and let him stay tangled forever.
" Maybe it's because I want to get to know you, or at least I am trying to because I find you just as interesting as volleyball." Hinata spoke out, the words soon entered your brain and they stayed there. Your hand soon removed itself from him, your eyes felt hazy and your brain felt shot. You quickly stepped back, your words barely reaching your throat before you screamed out in agony and ran. You couldn't decide whether it was the smart choice, but at this moment you didn't like how Hinata was acting. You didn't like how he could easily say those words when you barely knew each other. You passed Noya, who also happened to shout out towards you, yet you were too focused on Hinata's words, " I find you interesting as volleyball", who says that, who uses that as a pick up line, who even thinks of comparing sports to someone. You couldn't think straight, you didn't even hesitate to pick up your bag and make your way out of school, skipping practice sounded before then running into Hinata again, or Noya even. For now you'll just go home and enjoy the weekend and try not to think of the blush slowly working its way up your cheek, or the feeling in your heart you had only felt once, and that's when you first held a basketball.
