All was quiet in the Aragon-Boleyn-Seymour-Cleves-Howard-Parr household. Anne hadn't pulled one of her occasional 'early morning annoyances' -usually consisting of waking Aragon up in the most irritating ways. Therefore, Catherine hadn't chased Anne around the house trying to throw her cross at her. Jane was asleep, and not making food or mothering everyone. Anna hadn't started playing her video games in the living room loudly. Kat and Cathy were asleep, cuddled together in Cathy's room, as she had had a nightmare- and Cathy was the only one who could comfort Kat enough for her to fall back asleep. Mary was also asleep, as were Elizabeth and Edward. All was quiet. All was peaceful.
Until Jane woke up.
Yawning slightly, Jane Seymour sat up in her bed. She looked around at her room. It was painted white, with lots of plants and photos of the family- mostly of her son, Edward. She reluctantly got up, knowing Anne would soon wake and want her morning hot chocolate.
Jane put on her light grey dressing gown and made her way to the kitchen. Once there, she began preparing Anne's hot chocolate, Cathy's coffee and the kids and Kitty's apple juice. She set aside three mugs for hers, Catherine's and Anna's teas.
She had soon made everyone's drinks and was now working on fixing them some breakfast. Jane's specialty was pancakes, and everyone loved them. So she started making them.
Soon enough, the family began to emerge from their respective rooms.
First came Anne, sporting an emerald-green dressing gown with a white tank top and black shorts underneath. She thanked Jane for her hot chocolate and began to sip from it once seated at the table.
Then Catherine showed up. Unlike Anne, she was already dressed. She was wearing a light yellow hoodie and a pair of ripped black jeans. She sits two seats away from Anne.
Kitty and Cathy came down hand-in-hand, pyjama-clad, both looking equally as sleepy as the other. They sat down next to each other and started talking amongst themselves.
Anna soon followed, in a red pyjama shirt and matching bottoms. She started talking with Anne about possibly going in the back garden pool that day.
Then, Edward came down in some teal pyjamas and helped his mum cook. Elizabeth and Mary soon followed, and sat down in between their mothers. Mary was wearing a bronze coloured long-sleeved shirt and black leggings, whilst Lizzie was wearing her light green dressing gown.
Five minutes later, food was ready. Jane came around the table and passed everyone their plates.
"Where's Mae, Cathy?" Jane asks as she passed Anna her plate.
"I don't know, I haven't seen her this morning. I'll go check on her," Cathy responds, and gets up from the table, not before gently kissing Kat on the cheek. This doesn't go unnoticed and everyone takes a mental note of this to mock them later.
She walks up the stairs and goes to the room across from hers. Cathy gently knocks on the door, and quietly opens it upon hearing no response. She peers into the room.
"Mae??"
Nothing. Cathy looks over at Mae's bed. She walks over and lifts up the baby blue bedsheets and sees that the bed is empty. Cathy starts to panic.
"Mae?!"
She frantically searches the room, opening the wardrobe, the drawers, the toy chest. Nothing.
'There's only so many places one can hide in a 4 year old's bedroom!! WHERE IS MY CHILD??' Cathy thinks to herself.
She runs downstairs and alerts the family.
"GUYS."
"What is it Cath?" asks Kat, visibly concerned.
"MAE IS MISSING!!" Cathy yells.
Everyone instantly jumps up.
"WHAT?" Jane shouts, the motherly instincts in her brain whirring intensely. She dashes out of the kitchen to Mae's room, and frantic moving around can be heard from above. She, like Cathy, returns with nothing.
"She's not there..."
"I LOVE HIDE AND SEEK!!!" Anne shouts excitedly, earning a slight slap on the arm from Catherine.
"Not the time, Anne," she sighs.
The whole family soon begin to turn every room in the house upside down, searching for the small girl. Everyone checks their own rooms, and they check Mae's room several times. They search all 5 bathrooms, the living room, kitchen, Cathy's library, Anna's gym, Jane's art studio, Kat's dance studio, Catherine's prayer room, Boleyn's dedicated heely room and the kids' playroom. Soon the whole house has been upturned, and there is still no sign of young Mae.
Cathy begins to cry out of worry. Kat is quick to lead her to the sofa and wrap her in a comforting embrace. She gently strokes her hair with one hand, and has her other arm around Cathy's shoulder.
Kitty whispers, "It'll be okay Cath. We'll find her."
Anne snaps a photo of the scene to show them later. She has a little inkling that they like each other, and will soon enough be dating.
"WAIT!" shouts Kat, startling everyone and causing Cathy to press a hand to her eardrum. Kat apologises for being so loud before bouncing up off the sofa. "Guys!! There's still somewhere we haven't checked!!"
"WHERE?" Cathy demands as she stands up alongside Kat.
"FOLLOW ME!" Kat shouts and runs off.
The 8 household members follow after Kat. They run through the kitchen and out into the garden. They pass the barbecue and deck chairs. They carefully run past the pool- not without Anne pushing Catherine in. But Catherine manages to grab Anne on the way down and both land in the pool with a splash.
Everyone ignores the chaos that is about to occur and sprint across the grass. Ahead of them, Kat has stopped at the shed. The remaining 6 catch up to her and Cathy bursts through the shed door.
There, on the floor, scribbling in a colouring book, was Mary Parr.
"OH MY GOD MAE, YOU'RE SAFE!!" Cathy says, rushing to scoop Mae off the floor and hug her tight. Mae looked confused but accepted the embrace anyways, giggling slightly.
Cathy puts the child down and Mae picks up her colouring book.
"Look, Mum! I coloured a dinosaur!!" Mae said, proudly holding up her drawing.
"Wow, it's amazing, darling!" Cathy replies enthusiastically.
On the way back up to the house, the 8 pass the pool. There, they see Anne and Catherine cuddling on the outdoor sofa, wrapped in a big purple towel. Kat takes a photo secretly before sending a wink to Cathy.
Soon, everyone is back inside and safe. And neither Cathy nor Jane let little Mae leave their sight for a little while after that incident.
