Patient 404 stands all alone in their room. They have cancer. The doctors realised that the cancer had grown too much and stopped the treatment. They were going to die.
Patient 404's last wish is to see their sibling again. Their sibling was kicked out by their parents a few years ago and they never saw them since.Patient 404 slowly goes to the window. It is snowing. They felt the chilly breeze stinging their face. Their stomach hurts. Warm tears drip down on the windowsill, instantly turning into ice. The child rests their head on the sill and takes a breath. They never took another again.
Patient 404 wouldn't know hours later, their sibling would force their way into the hospital and open the door to find them resting peacefully. Forever.
They wouldn't know how their sibling would cry, arms desperately clutching their cold body.
They wouldn't know that their parents would rush in behind and forcefully take them away from the arms that they wished were around them when they still could breathe.
Nor that the nurses would gently coax their parents into putting them on a stretcher and cover their face with a sheet.
Patient 404 would never know, that a few days later, outside the hospital, below the very same window they breathed their last, another body would be found. Frostbitten, and as dead as their own sibling.
