has sent you a friend request

kaiyo raised an eyebrow at the notification, trying to remember why they knew the username. was it a bot? obviously, it was from lakee, a somewhat new and upcoming social media app. it was almost a mix of two other popular apps, discord and snapchat. there were lists of servers you could join, and if you weren't active in them for more than forty - eight hours, it automatically kicked you out. of course, you could rejoin pretty easily. you could also make friends and private message other people on said app.

it was then that it came to the red head that this user was from a gaming server they were in and having a conversation with earlier that day. a relieved sigh left them as they accepted the request, and got back to washing the dishes.

even later that day, almost midnight, kaiyo got a message from said user.

kaiyo-yo
don't worry about -
it, you seem neat :)

as the night went on, the two had a conversation and became quick friends, learning that they only lived about three hours away from the other. the girl's name was zoe, obviously - and was part of one of the richer families in the state. they were part of some large computer company that got popular a while back, "aten". she had an older [and apparently rather obnoxious] older brother, and enjoyed doing wild makeup - both for the look and to piss off her parents. after memes, jokes, and probably a normally too personal conversation, kaiyo said their goodnight and went to bed at around three in the morning.

it was like that for a few weeks, actually. conversations at varying times, zoe comforting kaiyo when their parents ignored them, kaiyo being there for zoe when her parents got angry about her grades. it was a friday while kaiyo was on the bus back home that they got a somewhat different message.

- heyyyy wyd
saturday?

kaiyo-yo
uhhhhmmmm -
nothing much, why?

why in the world would zoe ask now, of all times? they had discussed meeting up in the past, but it never really worked out. due to both the distance, but also because zoe's parents didn't really allow social media and they would have a fit if they knew about their daughter's usage.
