synopsis
RETROGRADEretrograde amnesia: in which one
cannot remember memories from
before an accident took place.THE NIGHT OF CELESTE ASHWOOD'S SIXTEENTH BIRTHDAY, she was in an accident. They said it was a car accident—a brutal head-on collision with a drunk driver. She was told her airbags failed to release, that as the sedan rolled over several times, her head collided with the steering wheel. They said the windows shattered, slicing her skin and leaving scars, some more prominent than others. The doctors say the damage to her hippocampus was caused by the blunt force trauma of the steering wheel as well as the force when the sedan rolled off the road, colliding into the treeline. They said she had retrograde amnesia and maybe her memories would trickle back later on, or remain lost forever.
Celeste only knows what she was told.
She knows she attends Forks High School and that her best friend since childhood is a girl named Angela Weber. She knows her birthday and she's told her favourite colour is blue. Her mom said she likes to play volleyball and watch the show 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer.' But, other than that, Celeste Ashwood doesn't know who she is, relying on what feels right and what she has been told.
She wasn't told all that much.
And, she definitely wasn't told about a certain teen named Paul.
