"Argh!"

Another cut. You can feel a warm liquid slowly release out of the open wound, dripping down your forearm and onto your hand. It stains your skin a crimson red as you feel the adrenaline die down, leaving an aching pain throughout your arm and body. Your left hand drops the knife as you now clutch around the incision.

What were you doing?

It had been years since the last contact between you two. Why were you still feeling these same effects even after she had last contacted you?

Could you even blame her for what you were doing now? You should've gotten over it already.

Yet why did it persist, the aching not only in your arm but in your heart? Why was it so difficult to let go? She had clearly gotten over it. Why couldn't you?

"F-Fuck," you stand up and take a look at your surroundings.

Filth and disgust were what everyone would've described the living conditions you had to endure. A small studio apartment with just barely enough essentials that kept you alive and sane. The walls had long been run-down and you had lost hot water a year and a month ago to this day. The lighting could barely provide any meaningful illumination to the room and you mostly lived and thrived in the darkness, a clear message from the gods that this was your destiny. Forever, alone and forgotten.

You move to the bathroom. The poorly-fitted tiling had begun to fall off, exposing you to the view of the thin insulation that lined the walls. You were lucky that you had a working toilet, sink, and shower, yet all with no hot water. It didn't matter to you though. Your frigid body had been accustomed to being cold day in and day out.

You reach for the small cabinet to the right of the sink and grab the roll of bandages. You don't bother to clean the wound, after all, what bacteria would want to live inside you if you couldn't find the will to live and be home for those pathogens. You slowly and methodically roll the bandages around your forearm, wincing at every pass of the open wound. It would heal in time, you're sure of it.

As you finish with the last pass, you use your teeth to rip the remaining portion and secure it to your forearm, giving a slow massage of your arm as you reenter the main room. You walk over to the couch and crouch before it.

The only remaining luxury that you had. It doubled as your couch and your bed, and while you did have a bed, the mattress was firmer than a boulder. The couch was never comfortable, but allowed you to sleep through all the pain and anguish you had put on yourself.

You lay down, slowly allowing fatigue from the day to let go and surround your body, allowing it to take you to a new land of dreams or nightmares. It helped you to escape your day-to-day reality which had always been a nightmare, and transport you into a different change of scenery, good or bad.

But recently, it had been the same dreaded dream and nightmare, alternating every other night. Something much closer to reality than you had pleadingly hoped it wouldn't be.

"After all this time!"

You shout, your pent-up emotions and anger flaring as you heat up. She equally reciprocates in fury.

"Shut up! I know you never cared for me! All you wanted to do was get in my pants."

You are taken aback by the comment. How could she even come to that conclusion?! You stay silent, unnerved, and trying to calm yourself down. She continues to verbally berate you.
