I stood in an office. Papers were scattered across the floor, and cork boards strewn haphazardly on the wall, messy red strings connecting random images and torn files. The floor was strewn with discarded trinkets and pictures, one path was visible. Click. Click. Click. My hands were clasped behind my back as I glanced around the room, attempting to avoid eye contact with the man pacing in front of me. He gestured at the single open chair.

"Dr. Mirdam, with all due respect, this is your office-"

"SCP-7432, please, it would be rude of me to make you stand, have a seat." His voice was laced with venom as he slowly walked around the desk to the other side.

"If you insist, sir.." I sat down in the chair. The noise nearly made me flinch.

"So 7432, I wouldn't expect you to have read the files, especially with your-" He waved his hand in the air. "-preoccupations, am I correct?" Dr. Mirdam leaned slightly forward, making his best effort to meet my eyes. He did not succeed.

I nodded my head and glared down at the reflective desk, the splatters of previously spilled drinks obscuring portions of my view. It didn't matter anyway, since all that greeted me was the dark, glitching mass in place of my face

"What was that?" Dr. Mirdam snarled at me.

"No Axel, I wasn't aware of any new staff assignments yet." I winced at my own slip-up, and my ears drooped slightly.

"Must I remind you that it is Dr. Mirdam to you?" His eyes seemed to bore into my soul, his voice laced with venom. I shrunk down and felt the glitches on my face grow in intensity.

When I attempted to respond, it felt like something was caught in my throat. I pulled out a tissue to cough into, then hid the blood-stained cloth in my pocket. "Right Doctor, my apologies to you..." I attempted to straighten out my posture.

Dr. Mirdam turned and walked to one of the piles of files, swiftly grabbing the topmost two. I watched a paper fall off the wall and to the ground, catching a glimpse of the messy handwriting covering it.

"Two staff members have been reassigned to your department, 7432, and I'm expecting you to behave, not scare them off. The paperwork wouldn't be fun for either of us, and the consequences would be horrible." His voice was laced with some sort of sick enjoyment. Dr. Mirdam pushed the files towards me. I glanced at the topmost file. Black ink, various expletives, and a healthy dose of scratches covered the name. Dr. Frost?  Ignoring it, I grasped the folders tightly and stood up to leave, my knees aching from the uncomfortable seat.

"Thank you, Dr. Mirdam, I'll keep that in mind." I sped towards the door, but paused when I heard Mirdam stand up.

"Don't hit your head on the way out, 7432." Mirdam muttered with a tired tone. As if it was fate, I forgot to duck and wound up slamming my head straight into the doorframe. With a slight stumble backward, I hunched down and strode into the hallway, a very audible laugh echoing from the room behind me.

Despite being considered a hallway, it was anything but. The doors changed locations every week, and the bustling crowds of overzealous researchers carrying piles of folders and boxes of objects were never-ending. The strange doorways, misleading signs, and mismatched furniture made navigating through the area difficult, yet people frantically moved to get out of my way. I sighed and quickly strode through the area, avoiding the strangely shaped objects tossed throughout the area.

As I reached the end of the hallway, I heard a pair of voices whispering from behind me.

"Have you heard? They assigned people to 035.." A voice murmured.

Another voice responded "Really? Even with the recent breach?"

"Yeah, and apparently under that freak of a project manager too." I turned my head just as the man pointed at me. The two researchers quickly backed away once they noticed my gaze, but I just sighed and walked away. Rumors were nothing new. Many new staff have called a breach whenever I dare go into a room. Today, I had hoped, would be different. Most of the instigators would be busy with their departments, and I thought I might be able to relax.
