The newly discovered merman, who I learnt went by the name Yoongi, just stood before me, sporting a straight up poker face.
"We don't have the luxury of time for more questions," he spoke curtly, taking a step towards me. He loomed over my seated form much like yesterday, loose clothes swaying with his movements and eyes ice cold. "Coughing up blood like you are, you won't last the hour."
I quivered in my place on the sand. The fact that he flat out refused to give me insight into whether turning into a merperson was a painful process or not only fueled my ever present uncertainty and panic. Yes I was aware of our time crunch and that he wanted to get the ball rolling, however, I had this unsettling feeling that his non-disclosure was intended, deliberate. Whether it be for his or my benefit I didn't know.
I looked towards Uncle Soo, hoping he would at least tell me something, surely he would know since Yoongi apparently comes and visits him on occasion. Unfortunately, much to my dismay, he remained silent, only giving me a look of sympathy and slight guilt. He knew the answer but didn't want to say it.
"I-It does doesn't it..." I dared to whisper. My assumptions confirmed when the fisherman solemnly looked away from me, not wanting me to meet his gaze.
Letting out a shaky breath and using my hands as leverage, I placed them firmly down into the powdery ground and pushed myself up. This action proved to be quite difficult, what with my legs wobbling like a pile of jelly when it gets swished around on a plate.
The world appeared like it was spinning way too fast on its axis causing another onslaught of dizziness to disorient me. I shut my eyes, not being able to handle the sight anymore without getting sick. Briefly losing my footing, I stumbled backwards feeling myself lose altitude. Gah not again! I've fallen down too much already as it is. Gasps of shock sounded off to my side no doubt from Myungsoo, them registering as if they were distant and murky.
I was at a loss as to what was going on with myself until eventually I felt my head come into contact with something warm and hard. A similar stable force shortly followed, wrapping itself around my shoulders and upper body.
This doesn't feel like the ground.
"Hey..." A deep, baritone voice rang out from above somewhere, causing vibrations to erupt through my form. "We've gotta stop ending up like this."
At that my eyes shot open where they were instantly met by the unimpressed one's of Yoongi himself. The blue in his orbs pierced right through my soul like an electric current as the merman in question held me tightly against his chest, ultimately preventing my little tumble and supporting my significantly smaller frame in the safety of his arms.
Oh my...
My eyes blinked erratically, taking him in. "Uh...I-I.."
Heat automatically rose to my cheeks at the position we were in, of how close I was to him and vice versa. His lean arms were practically crushing my body to his own broad one, not leaving much to the imagination as I could feel every solid dip and angled curve. His heartbeat, an ever present force as it constantly ricocheted against his chest where it then radiated into mine.
