A mother keeps her word

Hi, guys since you guys love my first story I thought I'd start a new one I just came up with. Hope you enjoy this one too!!!

The air in her lungs was tight from nervousness. Was she really about to do this? Risk her life for the sake of being a mother again? Yes, she made a promise to her girls. She promised them she would rescue them from this nightmare they call the red room. She has to get her girls out of here and find somewhere safe to raise them. It's only been a few years since she last saw her girl. Natasha should be 17 by now and Yelena is almost 13. Hopefully, she hasn't had her graduation yet. With her skills, she is at the top of her class. And the general said he was going to let her graduate early, how she prayed he hadn't made good on his promise. Upon realizing she'll have to raise her girls alone without their father. Having learned the general betrayed his so-called partner and threw him in jail, calling him a traitor to his country. Her poor Alexi rotting in a prison unable to see his family. The love she has for him is real she knows this as does her love for her children. Checking around the corner making sure there are no guards and to stay out of the camera's blind spot, she makes her way to Natasha's room. Knowing her oldest has also planned on escaping, she planned on helping her while also getting her family back. Hearing some of the guards come down a different hallway she quickly unlocks the door and hurriedly closes the door. Making sure the guards pass by she lets out a sigh and makes her way over to Natasha assuming she's asleep. To her surprise, it wasn't her daughter in the bed but a bunch of pillows and sheets made to look like her. Where is she? Suddenly she's in a chokehold and flips the person to the ground and places her knee on the person's chest making sure it's hard for them to get up. She realizes it's Natasha who was simply hiding in the dark at the unknown person entering her room.

"Natasha? Darling, it's me your mother."

Natasha looks astonished and confused. Why is the woman she once called her mother here? Was she here to trick her? Torture her? Why is she here?

"Pochemu ty zdes'? Ty mozhesh' nas ubit'!"

"Ya obeshchal vam, devochki, kogda my vozvrashchalis'. Ty pomnish'?"

Natasha stares at her dumbfounded. Does she really mean to take us away from this hell? Is she really giving in to the promise she made all those years ago? There's no way she actually means it, she's just trying to trick me. There's no way she's actually risking her position as the general's top bioengineer and scientist to really save her, is she?

"no no no no no no no no! Why are you here?!"

"Natalia my sweet girl I made a promise to you do you not remember?"

Natasha just looks at her in disbelief. She can't really be serious? This is just some sick twisted joke! another form of mental torture to break her? Sending the woman she once called mother to distract her from escaping this living hell.

"heh you're joking, why would you sacrifice your title and position just to save us? What's the matter, has the iron maiden gone soft ?"

Melina can understand Natasha's sarcasm but now is not the time they only have a 30-minute window in order for them to find Yelena and escape this hell.

"Natasha darling we don't have time for this I promise I will explain later but we need to find your sister and get out of here."

"You expect me to trust after what you did? You and that idiot gave us away and you broke your promise to me you promised you'd always protect me and you didn't you lied to me! How do you expect me to trust you after what you put me through?"

Melina can feel the tears forming in her eyes. she broke her promise once to her children but she won't make that mistake again. She looks at Natasha who has tears in her eyes as well.

"Natasha I'm so sorry for the pain I caused you but do you honestly think I wanted to give you back? To be raised in this place, this Hell?! To be abused? to be turned into weapons, mere playthings for a mad man? Do you honestly think this is what I wanted for you what any mother would want for her children?"

"Please you were only my mother for 3 years."

"That may be true, but within those 3 years and the time apart has made me realize that the one thing that truly made me happy what made me feel like living was having you two as my children. Natasha, I love you and I love Yelena I finally learned how to love and you two helped me finally be me all I want is to take you two back home with me so that we can be a family again. Please Natasha can we start over? Please?"

Melina is on the verge of tears expressing her love for her daughter hoping she'll give her a chance and come with her. Natasha feels a tear roll down her cheek quickly wiping it away trying not to show her emotions as her mother begs her to come with her. Sensing Natasha's hesitation Melina steps closer to her daughter to give her a hug hoping she doesn't get choked. Natasha just stands there feeling vulnerable and weak for letting this woman get into her head but she can't help it and she can't deny it, for years since that day she's prayed and hoped her mother would keep her promise and come get her and her little sister. To feel the warmth she felt when she had nightmares and would cuddle in her arms. To laugh while making cookies. To listen to her sing while in her lap when there was a storm outside and listen to her heartbeat when she didn't feel like it was real. Melina wraps her arms around her daughter holding her close to her. Natasha instantly feeling the warmth of her mother starts to cry silently lowering her head to listen to her mother's heartbeat just to make sure she's real.

"I'm here my little fox I'm here and I'm not going anywhere."

"I've missed you so much, mama"

"I know sweetheart I've missed you too. Now let's hurry and find your sister and get out of here."

Natasha stands up and wipes her face and grabs something from underneath her pillow.

"You still have your necklace?"

"It was my first birthday present from you it means everything to me."

Melina smiles at Natasha and puts her hand on her cheek. Nat leans into her mother's touch and puts her necklace on and grabs her gun and batons. Melina checks the hallway for guards listening carefully.

"Alright, your sisters on the second level with all the infants if we can get there without being spotted and get to the hanger and disassemble the tracking system we should be able to escape. Which reminds me turn around."

Natasha turns around confused but doesn't question her mother. Melina tries to reach Natasha's neck but realizes she is much shorter than her daughter now obviously wondering just how tall she is now.

"Eh, Natasha dear could you squat down for me dear your much taller than when you when 11. My you certainly got your height from your father."

"What do you mean? I just thought I was this natural ."

Melina makes quick work of removing Natasha's tracking chip from her neck and sews it shut.

"well yes and no while your base DNA said you would grow to the height of 5'9 when we were on our way to Ohio the general had a little side experiment using Alexie's blood and fusing it with yours. he wanted to see if he could create super-soldier children but thankfully it wasn't modified by me I simply was to examine you two to see if either of you inherited your father's super strength but instead you inherited his height. Yelena is still to be seen but we will be long gone before he can figure that out."

Melina finishes up with Natasha and they make their way to Yelena.

"Alright, you ready to leave this place?"

"I've been ready since I could walk."

Melina nods and they make their way through their hell.
