"A moment you'll never remember, and a night you'll never forget."
She blinked her eyes open, not remembering ever falling asleep. Or for that matter, anything after around midnight. She was in her own bed, completely dressed in pajamas, no headache, no aches in her body at all. She couldn't figure out what happened. Automatically a hand reached for the bright blue phone next to the bed and she checked her texts. She couldn't believe what she found.
"I love you. I love you so much and I can't get you out of my head. You're funny, stubborn, a little bossy, caring, and you've always helped me through the worst of times. I can never say this out loud. I can never face you again. But please believe me when I say I'm sorry for going. I never wanted to hurt you. You'll be in my thought on the plane ride and through out all my travels. Good luck with the new promotion."
He had sent her that. He had physically typed it in and expected everything he said to be the truth. Apparently she had read it around 1 because there was a lot of frantic replies on her part. Tilting her head back and taking deep breaths, she tried to fight the tears that were threatening to escape, but the dam broke. The boy, no; the man she had fallen in love with over the course of 23 years was across an ocean and she never told him the truth. She didn't remember initially receiving the text. She didn't remember replying in a panic. She didn't remember the absolute breakdown she had at first. She just let her mind go numb as she sunk back into the pillows on her bed, not wanting to move at all. He was gone and she would have to move on. And she would eventually, but today was not the day. Today was just the day that she lost the love of her life now. Nothing broke her heart more than knowing they would never get to say what they'd really been thinking. What they'd been feeling. So she shut her eyes and blocked the world out. It's the least she could do for the moment she couldn't remember, and the night she'd never forget.
