It was a cold night. Kathleen tried to pull in her blanket tight around her, but she was still far from becoming warm. Suddenly she heard a knock on her bedroom door. And another. And...another. Kathleen opened her eyes wide and stared at the pale door, using her mind to forcefully make it stop knocking. It seemed to work, until after a few seconds, it came again. Knock. Knock. Knock. "W-Who is it?" asked Kathleen loudly in a quaking voice. The knocker did not reply. There was nothing else for Kathleen to do except creep out of bed, wrap a warm dressing-gown hurriedly around her, open the door and hope against hope that she wasn't going to open the door to a psycho murderer or child-killer.
There was absolute silence around her except for the slow, sinister knocking sounding from her door. Kathleen reached out cautiously, turned the handle, opened the door...and made a break for it. She ran out of the room, eyes closed, crashed into pieces of furniture, and leapt into her parents' room screaming. There was no one there. She stared, dazed, at the empty bed and remembered that they had told her they would be out half the night. Just as Kathleen made plans to contact the police, a small squeaky voice sounded from behind her. "It's not nice to run away from me, you know."
Kathleen turned around to face a moldy green potato. It had tears streaming from its eyes. "IT'S NOT NICE TO RUN AWAY FROM ME, YOU KNOW!" it repeated, and began rolling around the room. "Just because I'm fat, and look a little moldy..." Kathleen stared at the potato, stunned.
"Can I eat you?" she asked tentatively.
"Not until we ride off into the night!" the green potato winked and jumped onto her head. They rode off into the night, towards the horizon, where the first rays of sunllight were beginning to shine, and pools of light dried the green potatoes tears. The potato turned around to look at Kathleen, opened his mouth...and then she woke up.
She sat up on her bed, and suddenly she heard a Knock. Knock. Knock from her bedroom door.
"Oh shit." she said.
