What if...? [A Tony Stark Fanfic]

What if..?

⚠️DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU HAVE SEEN ALL THE AVENGER MOVIES OR AT LEAST SEEN ENDGAME OR ELSE IT WILL BE SPOILED⚠️

Tony Stark scrambled for the infinity gauntlet, snatching it just before Thanos' big hand grabbed it. Tony clutched it to his chest desperately looking around for help, but everyone was fighting other villains.
"I think that belongs to me." Thanos' voice said, a hand clamping around Tony's throat and lifting him up. Tony struggled to breath, clawing at Thanos' hand, and in his desperate attempt to break free he dropped the gauntlet.
Thanos smirked, letting Tony drop to the ground. As Tony gasped for air Thanos picked up the gauntlet. "Finally. The universe can be saved"
Tony stared up at Thanos with a pained face, blood, dirt and grime covering his face. "You are not a savior. You are a cold blooded villain"
Thanos turned to Tony "a villain you say? Is the person who's going to solve universal hunger a villain? Is the person who's going to solve supply shortages a villain? No. I am the hero. And you are just a puny ant in my way"
"How is tearing families apart a worthy sacrifice for solving world hunger?" Tony spat, now on his feet.
"It is a worthy sacrifice." Thanos sneered. "Now before you or any of your "friends" stops me, how about I go ahead with my plan, hm?"
Tony looked alarmed, but stayed where he was.
Thanos lifted up his arm, which now had the gauntlet on it, smiling. "You know this really was a lovely change to the normal easy fights. You put up a good fight Tony. But I am inevitable" And Thanos snapped.

Nothing happened.
Thanos snapped again, then looked at the gauntlet. The infinity stones were missing. Thanos looked at Tony, who now stood with his own gauntlet and the infinity stones. "And I. I am Iron man" and Tony snapped.

White searing light spread through his body, but Tony held strong. He fought through it. And finally as the pain ceased, he collapsed. Relief flowered through his mind, it was over. Everyone had returned! But Tony was the price. A black void tugged at his conciseness. Then a voice cut through the darkness.
"Tony, I'm here! It's me! Penny!"
Suddenly there was something to live for and Tony fought back, but the pull fought too.
"We'll get you help you'll be alright I promise"
He could hear Penny crying, and he wanted to comfort her, but the black void tugged even harder, and he finally gave up.
As he felt Penny's head rest against his chest, Tony fell into the dark void, heaving his last breath, and finally laying the name "Iron man" to rest.

Then Tony woke up.
