Willis pov:

I never really had to get used to my mom being a horse. It's always been a part of my life. I remember when I realized my family was a little different. I was 7 and it was mothers day, in class they asked us to draw our mom. My teacher asked me why I had drawn a horse.. I just crumpled up the paper and ran away. I cried myself to sleep that night.

"Aw darlin', why are ya lookin' like your corn bread ain't done in the middle??" My mom, Carol asks in her distinctive southern accent.

"I'm just thinking..." I say, keeping my eyes set on the piece of mane I was braiding.

"Well try and cheer up, tell me bout' that dandy little honey pie you hired, what was her name? y/n?"

"I hope you don't mind that I hired her mum, it's just... you really need someone to take care of you."

"I surely can take care of myself sweet pea. She's pretty, no?"

I cant hide the blush that creeps up on my face, I think of the girl I met the day before, she had fingerprints like no other, soft looking hair and eyes that glowed in the sunlight. "I guess you could say that."

"Sweet pea your sweatin' like a sinner in church!" She says, trotting on the dirt and shaking her mane.

"Muuum!" I say with a chuckle. Carol had been able to talk for as long as I can remember, but It want always that way. She told me of the many adventures she had to take with my father to get the ingredients for the vocalization potion.

"Son...  theres something you need to know-" She starts, interrupting the comfortable silence and turning her muzzle away from me. "Your father-"

She's interrupted by the stable gate swinging open and a familiar voice coming from the distance.

"Willis?" y/n approaches, looking curiously at my confused expression. I step away from my mum and try my best to regain composure, acting as if my mother didn't just start to bring up he who must not be named.

"Oh! Y/n! i thought we agreed you would come at 3?" I dont mean to sound so hostile, but it comes out as more of an accusation than a question. She looks a bit embarrassed, looking down at her feet and fidgeting with a small red bracelet I haven't noticed before, and I feel a twinge of guilt.

"Well, um, I thought it might do some good to get to know carol a bit before I start teaching her tricks, I can leave if you want-"

"No!" I interrupt her and try my best at a warm smile. "Come over here I'll show you the ropes, literally, the reins are made of twine chord" The small smile she breaks into fills my heart with rays of sunshine and glitter. She approaches and carefully strokes my mums soft brown pelt. Carol gives me a not-so-subtle wink and lets out a satisfied neigh.

"Can I start out by grooming her?" y/n asks me, reaching in her satchel and pulling out a brush. Carol nods her head and I put my hand on y/n's guiding her hand and the brush in it along my mums mane.
