I awoke to the sound of thunder and water dripping on my nose. There was a storm coming. I heard some snoring next to me. I could just make out the outline of Brandon. The water was soaking us. We had to go get out of our little shack. " Brandon, Wake Up" I told my little brother
Brandon awoke and immediately started shivering violently. I took him with me outside and we both ran to the porch of our parents house. We found a comfortable spot on the floor and slept there for the night. I awoke to the sound of birds chirping and the wind blowing through my Dirty blond hair drying the wetness from the storm. I got up and woke up Brandon once again and we both got dressed in our usual sweatpants and old t-shirts. I called to brandon. " I'm going to go feed Polka-dot and the Chickens then i'll meet you out by the cows''
I heard Brandon Reply "Alright"
Off I went to the chicken pen.I stepped inside with some food for the chickens. Me and Brandon's favorite one, Polka-Dot, gobbled it up so fast some of the others never got a chance to eat so I got some more food and this time Polka-Dot was less hungry so she strutted away from me. I closed the chicken pen gate carefully and ran to the front door of the house. I took a little paper and saw that she and Brandon had 57 chores today. I was quite happy because yesterday we had 107 and we both got a big thwack on the back from our mothers teaching thwack ruler. I still had marks and it burned painfully. I finally arrived at where Brandon was and we started the day by Milking the cows. We always did this first because our mother and father had milk every morning in their tea or coffee and if they did not have any milk they would be awfully mad at us and we would get thwacked. As I walked out of the barn I saw a girl. She was an odd color. I was black. I had never seen anyone like this because I had never been away from this house unless Aunt Gina Came all the way from North Brazil then we would go to the shop but Aunt Gina Always made sure no one was there when I came with her. I walked a bit closer. The girl was sitting upon our gateway sealing us from the rest of the world. I started sprinting to where she was, wanting to ask her who she was. As soon as I got a little close she jumped off the fence and ran away. Disappointed, I walked away and told Brandon to meet me by the garden. We had to take care of the plants such as the Tomatoes, Mint, strawberries, and more. Soon we were done with about half our chores and it was lunch. I took Brandons hand and we knocked on the door. A grunty voice came " Come in" he said.
It was our father. His name was John. Me and Brandon had lunch then the day passed quicker than our father on a motorcycle. Just as I was about to change into my Pajamas i heard someone walking towards the chicken pen. I slowly cret outside and toward the chicken pen. There was a girl. But not just any girl. The girl I saw on the fence early today. " Hello?" I whispered.
The girl was drawn back in fear. "It's okay, I'm not gonna hurt you!" I said.
The girl must have been a slave. I have read some books about them because my mother has books about them and I stole some from her cabinet but I returned them as good as new. "What's your name?" i asked the girl
"Sylvia, What's yours?" the girl asked
" My name is Sky, why are you here?" I asked Sylvia.
She was opening up more. " I am here because I love animals and we don't have any next door... I visit the animals here every night" she said embarrassed.
I thought about this for a moment then replied " Of Course you can do that, do you want to talk for a bit?"
She replied "YES, by the way, I love your Blue Eyes!"
