Freedom is something that Rebecca has never known, but for which she yearns with all her being - so much so that she's willing to risk everything to leave her master and his plantation behind. But her eagerness is tempered when her brother insists that she go without him. Determined that neither of them should die in slavery, she leaves behind a promise that she will return for him one day, whatever it takes, but to do so will be a dangerous and frightful endeavor. Meanwhile, the issue of slavery itself has led the nation to become the most divided it has ever been as Alabama and ten other Southern states declare secession from the Union. Most Alabamians are glad of this, but it disgusts Daniel Ironwood to his core. He sees the secession of his state as nothing less than a betrayal of the nation his grandfather fought and bled to help create. Knowing his own neighbors and friends will brand him a traitor, he makes a drastic choice - to leave his farm in Alabama, and join the Union Army to help put down this rebellion. Thus do loyalty and liberty send two very different souls on paths that will change their lives forever. And when those paths intersect, it will lead them to a place that neither could have predicted - but only if they can both survive.

It's 1861 and slavery is still a poplar practice in the American South. 17 year old Clara is a slave, but she desperately wants to be a free woman. She hates the way she lives and her lack of control over anything in her life. She tries to find happiness in her friends and her lessons with her Mistress on reading and writing. Just when Clara is starting to accept that she will never be anything but a slave, her whole world turns upside down. As the southern part of the country rages over the results of the 1860 presidential election, Clara's life on a New Orleans plantation couldn't possibly be any harder. With talk of states succeeding and a big division being caused between the slaves, Clara's life is suddenly filled with drama, danger, and the ever present feeling of hope that change and freedom are right around the corner.

So this was a history project that I did, it's very different from what I do but people liked it so I thought that I could just share it because why not, it is a choose your own adventure so follow the choices.

Non-fiction. Writing an extraordinary Black man back into our histories. Born a slave in Kentucky, William Gibson served in both the famous 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War under his alias John Saunders and as a Buffalo Soldier with the 10th United States Cavalry. As a boy, he self-emancipated and took the Underground Railroad to freedom and relative safety from the Refugee Slave Act of 1850 in Chatham, Canada West. He was the only member of his family to successfully seek freedom before the war. Hoping this non-fiction piece will inspire some excellent historical fiction. Her soul went to Heaven while her family mourned her death. Follow Mawusi's journey through the afterlife, and listen to the story of a young slave from 1860.

A young girl's family provides a place of refuge for slaves on the underground railroad. One day, a girl her age shows up at there house on her way to freedom.

Swanhild is leading a group out of the oppressive Downlands, where magic has been banned upon pain of death, to the enlightened safety of the Uplands. The trip is fraught with perils and Swanhild frequently worries about the lives of her cargo.

Stefanie walked along the shore of the lake, enjoying the evening air. The soft, wet sand felt good underneath her feet. She breathed in deeply, inhaling scents she had enjoyed ever since she was a small child. A large gull flew overhead, looking for one last meal before turning in for the night. The sunset's reflection danced across the water. Stefanie sighed and smiled contentedly. She bent down to pick up a small shell, and her eyes caught on something. Someone. Laying in a motionless heap by the water's edge. "Caleb!" Stefanie gathered her skirts and ran towards him. "Caleb! Please, please, be alright. Caleb! No, no, no, no, no..." She knelt down and held her hand in front of his mouth. He wasn't breathing.

With slavery just seven miles away and the Underground Railroad operating in their midst, the youth of Gettysburg came of age during America's most searing challenge. And then the war came directly to their homes, changing them forever.

Lydia is a 13 year old slave living in South Carolina. She works as a domestic slave in the house of her owner. While she is working in the house, she meets her master's daughter, Colette. She befriends Colette and Colette illegally teaches her to write. One day as Colette is helping Lydia with her writing, she mentions the Underground Railroad. Lydia is fascinated and she needs to learn more. Lydia soon finds out about the Underground Railroad and learns about a potential chance at freedom. Will Lydia risk her life and friendship to be free, or will she stay as a slave forever? It is only one part long because it is very difficult to split up into parts. I worked really hard, so I hope you love it!
