Trigger and content warnings for this chapter include: panic attacks, blood, death, mention of hallucinations

Darkness. For a moment there was only darkness. It lay like a blanket around him. Pressing, almost suffocating. But for some reason he couldn't panic. He felt completely calm and soon just sunk back into the world of dreams.

He doesn't know how much time passed before he woke up again, but it doesn't matter. What did matter, though, was the fact that he was not at the location he had fallen asleep at.

This was not his bed. Above him was a beautiful sky painted with tints of purple and dark grey. Guy opened his eyes and was greeted by said sky. It didn't bother him though. Not yet. He was still partially asleep and figured this must just be another hallucination or even a dream. But it was not.

Guy would realize this soon, but for now he is stuck in a slumber, enjoying the silence and the beautiful sky. He shut his eyes again and took a moment to listen to the environment.

It was quiet. Too quiet. Guy realized this too and fear started to creep up to him. He opened his eyes and quickly sat up. This wasn't his bedroom! Had he started sleepwalking? Was this all just a dream? Had he finally lost his mind?

Looking around he noticed he was in a strange location. He didn't recognize this place. The grass was long and stood in small bushes, the trees were dead and croaking in the wind. But.. there was no wind. The dirt under his feet was dry, sticking between his toes and tickling the sensitive skin there. There was no sun, neither a moon, in the sky. But it did shine a purple hue onto the land, making the grass, dirt and trees look dark purple. It was definitely not an ugly sight to see.

The silence and complete loneliness was what was getting to Guy though. The silence was pressing. Unsettling. Anxiety dwelled in his stomach as he slowly got up to take a look around and get familiar with the environment.

His green eyes scanned the ground, the sky and everything in between in a fearful manner. Hastily looking around for any sign of recognition. Alas he found nothing he recognized. Not a strand of grass or a tree. No building in sight. Even the creasing of the path was unfamiliar to him.

Panic started to lump in his throat. It felt like an invisible hand was choking him. Where was he?? How did he end up here? Why was he here? Where is everyone else?

To calm himself down and prevent a full blown panic attack Guy sat down on the ground again, head in hands. He took slow, deep breaths and tried to think of the good side of the situation. He was finally alone, no more parents annoying him. The place looked beautiful. It wasn't dark and at least he was still alive.

It took him a minute, but slowly he started to calm down. His breathing slowed to a normal pace, as did his heart rate. Once he was sure he was calm Guy stood up and looked around once more. He couldn't let fear get the upper hand, that would cause his mind to cloud and thinking would be near impossible. Which is obviously not what you want in a situation such as this.

Guy decided to follow the path and just try to navigate to somehow find a way back home. He decided to not ask questions yet, for it would most likely drive him insane. Aimlessly wandering around wouldn't solve anything so the path was his best option.

Slowly he started walking, cautious of his surroundings. He had no idea if he was really alone and every little sound made him jump. Everything sounded so loud in this deathly silence. But Guy carried on. Well.. he more or less had to.

He walked for a while. He didn't know exactly how long, since day and night are the same. Minutes turned into hours, hours turned into days before Guy collapsed on the floor. He was starving, dehydrated and exhausted in every way possible. Even adrenaline couldn't keep him going anymore.

Guy decided to rest up for a little before he would continue this hopeless quest. And so he fell into a deep sleep..

He woke up with a pounding headache, which put him off guard. He groaned and opened his eyes. "Probably the dehydration.." Guy muttered to himself.

He forced himself to his feet and closed his eyes to rub them harshly and force himself to keep hanging on. Once he reopened his eyes he froze in terror.

A chill went down his spine, making his legs feel like jelly as he looked at the creature in front of him. It wasn't that big. The size of an average American twelve year old, but its appearance is what had startled Guy.

Guy miraculously managed to remain standing as he looked at the strangely shaped black thing that was the creatures head. It reminded him of an ocarina. Strangely shaped and hollow, with holes penetrating its shell. It seemed to be made out of wood covered in a strange black liquid that was just tardy and sticky enough to create a thick protective layer.

Its entire body seemed to be made of the same wood covered in the same substance. Now Guy took a closer look he noticed the creature had holes all over its body and it was hollow.

The creature tilted its head to the side. It made a creaking noise, like a tree would do in the wind. The exact same noise he'd heard days before! Had this creature been following him this whole time? Why wasn't it attacking him?

Guy winced as the headache seemed to intensify even more. He'd pushed it to the background, but right now the pain was so unbearable it was impossible to ignore. He reached to rub his temples and noticed something warm leaking out of his ears.

Retrieving his hand the poor guy became even more terrified. Blood. There was blood leaking from his ears. How and why in the hell?

His head started to become clouded with pain and possibly something else. Thinking became impossible. All feeling in his arms and legs started to fade away and he went jelly legged, collapsing on the dry dirt.

More and more blood came oozing out of his head. It started to puddle around him, sticking in his hair and covering the dirt, that weirdly enough seemed to be hydrophobic.

Was this creature somehow.. melting Guy's brain?

In the last moment before Guy lost all consciousness he saw the creature take a deep breath before going back to the way it was standing before. For a split second a high pitched whistle could be heard, that soon reached a point where it was too high pitched for humans or even dogs to hear. Guy could feel a new attack on his head. Then everything faded to black.

End note
This was just a short horror stories inspired by some liminal space images I saw. I think it turned out pretty well and I kept the ending just vague enough for people to start theorizing so.. fill up the comments with your theories on what happened and then I'll see you all next chapter!

Oh yeah also. I'm going to make a cover for the book once I feel motivated to draw again. Or I will use an old Image. I'm not sure yet.
