it's a prolonged prologue

***/Prologue/***

It is not a matter of 'maybe', or 'perhaps'. It is very clear to me, I know it with the greatest certainty that it is a forbidden love - an impossiblity I created for myself. An impossiblity if ever made possible, would end in the most awfully sad ending ever written in the history of love stories.

My ma would never understand, my friends do not understand, I cannot understand. It's not an infatuation, of course it started with one but it has progressed to so much more for me. I am tortured and pained but I truly do not regret any single bit of happiness I got from my fantasies of him.

It was the spring of 2020 and I was in my second semester. The college had reopened after the fierce battle of pandemic and the consequent lockdown. It was a brand new place for me filled with new people, new air, new surrounding but everything felt a good new. The pathway was a dear, trees at the sidewalk filling with green buds of spring, a beautiful park just beside and to add to that, it was 'peopleless'.

I was with my umbrella walking alone, trying to fight the awkwardness of a loner while maintaining a calm, collected figure. I was humming to myself. It always helped. I imagined myself in the college three years later and thought of how I would cry on the last day and all those good things I might experience as a college student.

Lost in these thoughts, had I been a second late, I would've missed the epoch moment that led to the birth of this story.

An intruder obstructed my thoughts as I almost bumped into his chest. Damn! I thought I had the pathway to myself.

I lifted up my umbrella to see a tall figure blocking the sunrays as the soft spring breeze blew on his short front hair, an ethereal spectacle I enjoyed from a good distance considering I was cautious enough not to bump into him. He was holding his umbrella closed and had his laptop bag well placed on the backside of that perfectly chiseled torso. A black mask covered his nose and lips but I could just tell that they would be handsome. Above that black mask was the most beautiful pair of dreamy almond eyes, filled with curiosity and strength. Never had I seen such eyes that casted magical spells, alluring enough to keep me spellbound.

When I recovered from the 'spell', he was already way past me. And dang it! I couldn't even say sorry.

To any passerby it was just a normal situation where two strangers walked pass each other but for me, who is ever romantic, that moment opened the door of my fantasies and gave me a whole new casket of unexplainable feelings i anticipated for further exploration.
