We started as just two strangers in an online community. Then friends, video calls and voice calls every other night. Meeting in person created a much stronger bond between us after finding out we lived quite close to each other. To now, a couple. We had moved in together.

He was a pro-hero with more free time on his hands than he would've liked, but now with me in his life, he wasn't bothered by it, as he could choose to spend it with me.

When the relationship went public, we received backlash from his fangirls and from people who weren't supportive of the fact we were both guys, but we also received a lot of support and acceptance.

We were thriving together until he started acting weirdly. It would start as just staying in the basement for long periods he was adamant that I didn't go down there. Then he would somehow always be there if someone was giving me trouble. He would not let his co-workers or sidekicks talk to me unless absolutely necessary. He became extremely nosey, always having to know where I was going or who I was talking to. It became very rare that he would leave my side unless it was for patrols at night. I brushed it off as just being extremely clingy or trust issues from past relationships. Yet it only got worse as time passed.

Relatives had gone missing, friends had gone missing, enemies had gone missing, some turning up dead - mangled and unrecognisable. Everyone around me dropping like flies.

Tonight was one of the nights that Hawks would have to go out on patrol. Before he left he repeated his 'rules' like normal.

' Don't leave the house unless necessary, don't have anyone over, don't go in the basement, if you need anything then call me.' He would always say when he left me alone. Like he didn't trust me.

I was curious though. Why did he not want me in the basement? It was my house as well, so what was keeping me from going in there? Keigo would be gone for hours so it's not like I need to worry about him coming back. So, here I was, in front of the basement door, it was locked but after watching where he hid the key, I took it and unlocked it.

The stairs lead down into pure darkness. Switching on the light, I slowly made my way down the wooden steps, they creaked at every movement I made.

The smell of the basement hit me like a truck, it was disgusting. Rotten. What the fuck was down here? I gagged and pinched my nose to try and hide the smell.

The light flickered and buzzed as it hung down above a circular wooden table. The sound of flies circulating the bulb. On the table were boxes of thumb tacks and pins, pegs and rolls of strings. A camera lay there too.

The walls were covered in laminated pictures and strings full of the small printed photos. Looking closer, they were of me. Some when I was sleeping, some when I was talking to random people and when I was walking alone, or when I was sitting. There was a range. The photos hung up by string were of bodies, I recognised them to be the bodies of all those friends and family members and enemies that had gone missing. Taken straight after their lives had been snatched so brutally. Before and afters of the crime.

Right in the middle was a giant poster of people's names, most I knew but some foreign to me. A lot had been crossed out in red, the ones who were victims. However, in the centre was a photo of me and him. A heart around us drew in red.

My face felt wet as I realised I was crying, my hands moved from my nose to my cheeks and I was reunited with the horrid stench of the basement.

Snap. A flash filled the room. I turned around to see him. The one who had created this nightmare. Keigo.

" That'll be great for the collection. " He says as he waves the printed picture, his eyes staring into mine, I couldn't tell what he was feeling, his eyes showing no emotion yet every emotion at the same time. I couldn't say anything, no words would spill.

Keigo stepped toward me and I backed away, my back eventually hitting the wall. He gently grabbed my waist but pulled me closer to him harshly.

" I told you the basement was off limits, my love. " He whispered in my ear. His hand stroked my hair as he continued. " I guess I'll show you what you missed. " He lead me to a corner of the basement, where the smell only got more unbearable.

A freezer. He opened it with his right hand, his left keeping a tight grip on my waist. The sight was straight out of a horror movie. A body, beaten and bruised, mangled and unrecognisable, ice had grown on them from being trapped in the freezer for god knows how long. I couldn't even tell who it was. I wanted to throw up, to look away yet I couldn't, I was frozen in shock.

Keigo's arm left my waist as he moved to another corner. I took this as my chance to escape, making my way up the wooden steps, Keigo making no attempt to run after me because he knew I wouldn't be able to get out. I pounded at the front door, hoping by some miracle it would open, it never did and I felt Keigo's arms wrap around my waist from behind, pulling me to his chest, his face buried in the crook of my neck.

" Come on, my love. " He drags me up the stairs easily as I don't make any attempt to run, I knew he would get me. He leads me to our bedroom and sits on the bed leaning against the headboard, sitting me in between his legs.

I noticed he had a large book with him, it had a brown cover and red stains that I could only guess were blood splatters. He opened the book to the first page.

It was a written diary entry by Keigo. The date was when we first talked in that community online. And from there on, the pages were filled with diary entries and pictures of me or the bodies, with detailed descriptions of how they were murdered. He would read every page to me as if he were telling me a bedtime story. He would kiss my neck gently every time he turned the pages, reminding me just how much he loved me.

I wanted to leave, I had to leave. But I couldn't, I would never make it out. And even if I did, he'd stop at nothing to find me again. His speed and intelligence outmatched my own by miles, plus he had the advantage of flying. I'd be tackled down within a matter of minutes when he realises I'm gone. One of us has to die for me to be free. It'll be me. But even then...

not even death could do us part.
