I reached my apartment and closed the door, but I was curious of how many people remained in here. I mean, I could expand a little bit if my neighbour had recently moved.
So I checked, by kicking down the door a little bit.
There was no one.
I assumed they had left, but all their stuff were still there, so it could be one of two things:
One: They were killed while they were out.
Two: They had gone in such a hurry that forgot lots of things.
I mean, they liked to talk about lots of things, but I didn't listen, most of the time.
Maybe they had a villa somewhere, but I seriously didn't care about them, only for the objects.
Not gonna lie, in this new world, resources are the only things that matter, and in a world dependent on Viridium, there were very few things that worked. They weren't pretty young, so I considered they had electronic items, from before Viridium became the go-to mineral.

And my predictions became a reality when, in a corner of their wardrobe, were some telephones from before, like the strongest phone, the Nokia 3310, which still had almost 57% battery.

I immediately used that to try to call my relatives, who lived in the north of the country, but it didn't work, as I totally forgot for a second that telephone towers had Viridium in them.

But it still was a phone.

There were clothes, but none of them fitted me, so I decided to do what everyone would: search for guns. I mean, they were always saying "Guns this" and "Guns that", so I figured out they had one.

It was a black pistol, with only 5 bullets of ammunition. I figured out that would be enough to scare some people.

I fetched it and went out of there, into my apartment, now ready to explore the world as carefully as I could. I did not know back then if I would be able to kill somebody. Dead people weigh a ton, not physically, but rather mentally.

I knew I would prioritise my life over theirs, but is it a prioritisation if my life gets ruined, and theirs too?

Well, that philosophical moment was cut short by some pillagers, who were trying to get into the apartment building, I hoped unsuccessfully.

But, as I walked down the hall, I heard some steps, followed by a gunshot. I couldn't tell if they were friends or foes, so I made the only good decision I could.

I ran to the fire exit, but someone was going from above to me, blood dripping through the cracks of the staircase. What was following them surely wasn't someone with good intentions.

What should I do? Accept my fate and die or risk it all for an unknown event?
