Third POV
Dylan age four
––
Dallas sat curled up on the couch in the dimly lit living room, tv softly playing. Her fingers played mindlessly through brunette locks of the four year old sleeping on her chest. Soft puffs of air hit the nape of her neck as Dylan snuggled closer, almost struggling to move in the much too large hoodie— Demi's— that she wore. The hoodie had been a constant. Most parents had to fight to get cowboy, astronauts, or princess outfits off their children to wash—the amount of tantrums Dylan had thrown this summer over a hoodie, that was truly too hot and too big for the girl, had been monumental. A fight everyone in the house had honestly dreaded each time, the girl definitely had some pipes. The thought made Dallas chuckle, her mom had finally learned to bribe the little one with another hoodie once the eldest sibling had mentioned the idea.

Eyes looked down at the four year old, debating if she should just take her back up to bed after Dallas had truly realized how late (early) it had become. Any tantrum that would be thrown in the morning would be short lived though she knew, Demi would be home. A sigh left the eldest siblings lips, mind made up, shifting to lift Dylan right as her phone vibrated. A glance over at the name which appeared on the screen gave her pause.

Dems🤪: Almost home. How's my monkey?

My monkey, a smirk tugged at Dallas' lips. Since before Dylan was born Demi had called her that. As time went on it became a more fitting nickname; the energy Dylan had, constantly on the go and jumping around or how she tried to climb nearly everything.

Dally😎: Passed out on my chest 😂 She tried to wait up for you.

Knowing Demi would be there more than likely any minute, Dallas relaxed back into the couch. Another vibration from her phone but before she could glance at what Demi had sent a voice nearly made her jump. "What are you doing up? And with Dylan, Dallas it's almost one thirty in the morning." Dianna clearly wasn't thrilled the second youngest child in the house wasn't in bed; brows furrowed, voice stern but quiet enough not to wake the four year old.

Dallas internally rolled her eyes, at least Dylan was asleep. "She wanted to wait up for Demi." Truly, that sentence shouldn't be a surprise. Dylan had been counting down— with Dallas' help— the days until Demi would be home. It was more than clear which Lovato was the girls favorite. The eldest couldn't even complain about coming in second. The connection Demi and Dylan had was unrivaled, again not a surprise in Dallas' mind.

Dianna allowed an aggravated sigh to leave her lips, moving closer to the two with the clear intent to pick Dylan up. Unconsciously Dallas gripped her tighter, "She can see Demi in the morning—" Her mom started.

"Demi is almost here, mom." She interrupted, "Just let her be. I would rather avoid another tantrum." From either of them, went unsaid. The sound of the front door unlocking, followed by a bag being put down thankfully broke up the conversation. Quick steps were heard headed their way and Dallas carefully stood, Dylan fussed some.

"See, she needs to be in be—" Once more Dianna was cut off as Demi finally appeared. The moment the singers eyes landed on Dylan it was as if any and all tension left her body. Eyes lit up and the soft genuine smile that painted her lips was one of pure adoration.

"Oh monkey," Demi nearly cooed as Dylan continued to stay asleep but still fussing. A gentle laugh made Dallas smile as the two sisters easily transferred Dylan into Demi's arms. "Sh, I've got you." With ease, Demi adjusted Dylan and bounced just slightly. A content huff left the four year old and she snuggled closer.

Dallas pressed a kiss to the little ones head, "I'm going to bed. I'm glad your home, Dems." Another kiss, this time to Demi's cheek and Dallas was heading up the stairs.
