It didn't take us long to get a pretty good system going. One of us would use the clinic computer to find the pets owner by inputting the microchips code, while the other made the call. We'd swap after so many so neither of us would be stuck doing the same thing for long. After making all the calls we were stuck waiting. We sat around doing nothing, and the silence was very awkward. Only thing that broke it was when we had animal owners collecting their runway pets.
"Hey I'm going to do on some homework, if that's cool?" Scott asked after he walked a happy pet owner reunite with their dog out the front door. "Yeah, go ahead." I said. "I think I'll do the same."
We both gather our school bags from the staff room and brought it back to the front.
"Hey you can have the desk if you want." I offer to Scott. "You sure? I don't mind sharing the space." He said. I walk over, picking up the spare chair and moved it to the side. "Yeah it's fine. I finished my assignments." I say as I sat down on the chair, opening up my book bag, pulling out the AP Biology textbook, flipping through the pages as I search for the material we went over today. "You did? Already?" He says, looking shocked. I looked at him and nod. "Yeah. Most of the teachers allow me to work on future assignments that they gave me ahead of time. As long as I don't disrupt the lectures and take all given quizzes and tests with the class, they didn't really care." I could see it in his face that he's trying to wrap his head around it all before he spoke. "Dude, are you some sort of genius?" He asked. I couldn't help but let out a small laugh. "I don't think I'd say "genius" per say." I give a small smile. "Did all sorts of studies while I was being homeschooled.""Man, when did your parents put you into public school?" He asked. I stopped flipping through the pages due to finding the section I needed. "Well, my parents past away a few years ago..." I was interrupted suddenly. "Oh man I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bring it up..." his voice trailed off with filled with sympathy. I shake my head." No it's perfectly fine. It happened a long time ago." I say as I try to reassure him. "Anyways, my grandparents enrolled me into public school a few years ago when I started freshmen year."
"Wait so you didn't start going to an actual school till you started attending Beacon Hills High?" He asked trying to clarify. I nod. "Yep. That's right. It was a huge adjustment."___________________________________
We chatted a bit more as he did his homework and I did some reading. In between we had more animal owners come to collect their pets until the kennels were empty. I went ahead and volunteered to do some quick cleaning in the back. Scott agreed. "Sounds good. I'll finish up with this then I'll lock up." I nodded and went to the back.
I started with taking out all the kennel beddings that were disposable and putting them into trash bags. I gave the surfaces a thorough wipe down with sanitation products that were safe to be used around animals, before sweeping the floors. I gather all the trash, four big black trash bags, in both hands and took it out the back door, down the ally where the dumpster was. Luckily the dumpster was already left open so I just chucked them in without a problem. As I was walking away, I forgot to close the lids. I take a glance around , no one in sight. I turn to face the dumpster, raising my right hand, doing a quick waving motion, the lids swung shut. I smile, giving a nod of approval as I walk back into the clinic.
I wash my hands as I got back inside. I made my way back to the front. I notice Scott flipping the "We're Open" to "Sorry, we're closed" sign and locking up. "I called Deaton and told him that all the animals have been picked up. So we can head home." Scott said as he put some keys back into his pocket. "Awesome." I say as we both gathered are stuff and headed out the back door making sure all the lights were turned off. Scott locking the door behind us.
"Good work today." Scott says as we both take a few steps away from the door. "Thank you. You as well. Went allot quicker then I expected." I said as I took out my phone to look at the time, it reading 6:10pm, also noticing a few texts from Diana asking when I'd be home. I quickly responded:
Me:
Hey I'm leaving work now. I'll be home in a bit
