Still in Santiago's POV
I almost keep forgetting that someone else sleeps on my bed but this morning that person wasn't beside me. Where could've she gone in the morning? My eyes slowly flutter open to the sound of bucketing rain outside and thunder.
I love the rain. It brings richness, the rhythmic sound of it soothes my heart and brings strength to my soul. It's like it gives a new life to everything, to me as if it washes all the sins away. It reminds me of my brother because he loved the rain. He loved everything about it; at night he used to go downstairs at my parents home and stand by the patio door to watch it fall. He used to run out into the rain and get told of by our mama because every time he did that he fell sick. And I remember what he always used to say, the rain only makes me stronger mama.
Two voices were heard from downstairs, one was Reina for sure but the other I had no clue. But one of them sounded so scared. I race downstairs, greeted by Rex and Nitro.
"Hey Reina, count with me then you won't realise that there is thunder outside. It will calm you down. Let's count together."
She's scared of the thunder?
My sister and Reina were in the living room, I lean by the door to watch Adelina hold Reina's hand as they count numbers. Reina's back was turned so she didn't know I was there but Lina knew. I told her to stay nothing for a moment.
"Adelina, I- don't know I'm gonna jump into your arms if I hear it again." I hear Reina complain, she was squeezing onto Lina's hand like her life depended on it.
"Rei, just count with me," They start counting, I kept staring. I decide to walk closer to her but she hasn't noticed yet that I was also in the room. "Look, you're doing so well. Okay I think it's going to come again-"
As soon as the lighting struck, Reina squeals so loud that she stumbles back into my body. I immediately wrap my arms around her waist and turn her around to hug her. Her arms tighten around me, small whimpers escape her mouth as the lightning strikes once again which only causes her to grip tight around me.
Adelina was smiling like a fool at us, I roll my eyes at her before attending to Reina.
"Reina- will you look at me please? The thunder is gone," I whisper into her hair but she only shakes her head. "Look at me before it comes back."
She lifts her head up from me and lets go of my body. Her eyes were filled with terror for the thunder. "I'm scared of the thunder, Santi." She mumbles, looking outside to the arched window.
"It's outside, why are you scared, hermosa?" I stroke her hair, she was standing close to me, gripping onto my arm.
"I- um have always been scared of the thunder." Her eyes turn glossy and I instantly knew what she was referring to.
"Look Lina and I here. Nothing will happen, okay? I'll make sure all the windows are closed." I reassure her and she nods hesitantly as another lighting strikes and she jumps back into my arm.
"Reina, how did you used to not get scared? Maybe we can try to do that." Adelina asks.
"I used to talk about my favourite things to Matias and he would listen until I was okay with the thunder being outside." A small smile appears on her face as she remembers the good times.
"Okay so talk to Santi or me. Tell us about your favourite things. That way we can get to know each other." Lina says.
"Sit down here first, then start talking." I make Reina sit back on the sofa, I sit beside her because she was holding my hands.
