Second person POV.
You stumble over a rock, tripping a little as you enter the safety of an overpass bridge. It's lightly raining, only a drizzle but still enough to ruffle up your hair for the rest of the day until you manage to sort it out. You didn't worry, though, you'd fix it when you get home and sorted.
Q-Ta waddles beside you, taking his time but eventually reaching your heel, affectionately rubbing against you before sitting down with a soft chirp. You smile down at him. You've grown so find of your companion and you still don't even know where he came from. He's like a friend, a foe detector and a foe siren.
Just as you think of what he is to you, it seems as though warning sirens are blaring in his head, no matter how small it was. He spins around, accompanied by a loud 'gyu'. It sounded uncomfortable, threatened, worried not only for himself but for you too. He peers over his stubby shoulder, releasing another noise before turning back to what he had seen, and eventually, what you saw.
It was a blob in the shadows of the overpass, oddly sprouting out of the ground like some sort of tumour. It didn't bother you, but it bothered Q-Ta a lot. His barks and wails grew louder.
"Woah! Calm down, what happened?" You kneel beside him and try to grab him to lift him up, but he struggles and bites, continuously growling and barking and snapping. You pass your gaze back to the blob.
It's morphing. Limbs slowly form on it's surface, some like weird tendrils and one right out of the top, shaped like a lasso.
It lashes out at you, the lasso raising and aiming to capture you in its grasp. You easily dodge it, stumbling over your feet once more and skidding to a halt behind the bridge. Then, it gave chase.
You have no time to catch your breath as the lasso-like appendage turns the corner, shooting at you with immense speed. You run for your life, but feel your legs giving in only seconds into the chase. Your lungs feel like they'll collapse any moment now, and you prepare for your last breath.
Your wrist was seized by a terrible force, and you look back from your struggle to see the blob, now looking somewhat like an animal, dragging you towards it with minimal effort. You yell and shout, trying to tug at it and release your arm from its grasp, but nothing happens.
Q-Ta leaps up, having ran behind you in pursuit do your attacker. He jumps out, biting at the lasso appendage, giving you enough room to wriggle your wrist out and escape, or at least make some space between you and your attacker.
You grip your wrist and pull down your blouse cuff slightly to observe any damage. Luckily, there is only a burn mark, but that'll leave eventually, unlike the stinging that it's making.
When you look back to your opponent, your heart skips a beat. Q-Ta struggles in the grip of the creature, screaming out in fear and pain as his abdomen is curled around by the thing.
You trust your gut instinct and grab your small bag off of your shoulder, throwing it with as much force and power as you can at the creature. It hits it in the face, making it drop to the floor, drop Q-Ta, and morph back into a pile of muck.
'Are these things able to be defeated just with a bag?' You question as you wipe the sweat from your brow, happy you've escaped near-death. You kneel beside Q-Ta, checking to see if he was alright.
This gives your attacker one last chance to strike.
Before you know it, the lasso is around your neck this time, tightening with each ticking second that goes by. You can do nothing but stay still and shake, pondering on the intrusive though if whether this was to be your final moment on this earth. You enjoyed these creatures, even if they didn't seem entirely real. Who knows, you could be hallucinating in a mental hospital, but the company is better than anything.
Footsteps come from the distance.
Are you being saved? Your breath hitches as you anticipate someone, anyone to turn the corner and save you. It appears as though your wishes are true, too, as down from the bridge jumps a new person, landing on the lasso and snapping it in half. You're given the opportunity to breathe, and you take it, shuffling back after the initial blow and letting the newcomer help.
The new man slips something off of his back. You're unable to see, not only because of your foggy, tear-filled eyes, but also because of his attire, fully black with specks of orange here and there, which are very occasional. He's like this creature, you can't make out what's what on him.
That thing that he removed from his back was now evidently a bag. Was your previous assumption correct? You hoped so, because if you see these things again you'd just be able to knock it down with an easy swipe from a heavy duty camping bag or something of the like.
Nope. You're so, so off with what you think it is.
The new person stares in full concentration, flexing his arm and stretching out, preparing for an attack on this wretched creature. The bag, from what you can tell from your angle, extends a massive, orange tongue from a mouth on the front surface, breaking into the creature and breaking it in half with one swipe.
"I-it ate it.." You remark to yourself while you swallow down your built up saliva, fists clenching tightly and relaxing soon after.
The boy turns, picking up Q-Ta carelessly and chucking him at you. Q-Ta lands on your head, light as a feather, still dizzy and asleep from the confrontation. You look up, and right into the boy's eyes. You instinctively gulp again.
"Who the hell are you?" The voice is soothing, but cold in both words and tone. He speaks again rougher and more intimidating, as if he's intentionally making his voice coarse to frighten you, "Depending on the answer, I'll--"
Fuck.
