It was the beginning of a new, sunny day. The Acting Grandmaster, Jean was hard at work in her office as usual, completely unaware of what day it was. A short while later, she suddenly heard a knock at the door. Jean had no idea who would be needing her this early in the day, but she didn't think much of it. "Come in," she called. "How may I hel-" but she didn't get to finish her sentence, as she certainly wasn't expecting master Diluc to be at the door. "Oh, good morning master Diluc," she said, suddenly aware of a slight heat rising in her cheeks for unknown reasons. "Good morning, Jean," he replied. "Any particular reason why you came here?" she asked. "Jean, you need to take a break from work. I'm here to accompany you on your break," Diluc suddenly replied. Jean was slightly confused by this. "What? No, I'm fine. I don't need a break, I have work to finish," Jean quickly said. Diluc wasn't convinced by this. "Do you know what day today is?" he asked. Jean quickly scrambled through her mind, trying to remember whether today was some important day, or someone's birthday. She was sure it wasn't Diluc's birthday, because she always kept track of it, but nothing else came to mind. "Uhh...no, actually I'm not sure what day it is. Is it someone's birthday? Please don't tell me I forgot someone's birthday...". "Yes, you did. You forgot your own birthday, silly," Diluc sighed, now slightly frustrated that Jean had really forgotten her own birthday. "Now do you see why you need a break? C'mon, let's go take a stroll outside," Diluc said. "Oh, n-no um it's ok I-" but Jean didn't get to finish as Diluc took her hand and lead her out of her office "Please, don't resist. I'm not going to leave until you agree to rest from working. You clearly need it," Diluc said calmly. "Alright, okay," Jean sighed in defeat. "Lead the way." As they stepped outside of the Knights' of Favonius building, the sun shined brightly down on their faces. Diluc noticed how Jean's eyes seemed to glow in the sun and felt something warm rising inside him. He quickly shook off the feeling. "It's your birthday, you decide where you want to go," Diluc replied. As Jean started thinking, she noticed the heat of Diluc's hand encompassing hers, and felt herself slightly blushing. "Hmm, let's go to Starfell Lake. I haven't been there in a while," Jean decided. "Alright," replied Diluc, and the two went off on their way.
They spent most of the morning walking while chatting and catching up each other on their lives. By the time they got to the lake, it was already afternoon, but none the less, the lake was as beautiful as ever, with the sun's rays dancing on its surface. "I forgot how beautiful this place was," Jean grinned. Without seeming to notice, Diluc grinned as well, which was a bit unusual for his usually grim expression. "You know, Jean, your eyes match the lake. They twinkle just as brightly and beautifully in the sun," Diluc suddenly said before he could think. Jean was slightly surprised to hear something like that from Diluc, but she still smiled. "Thank you, master Diluc", Jean beamed. Diluc wasn't sure why, but seeing Jean so happy made him feel happy inside too, something he hadn't felt in a while. "Anyhow, we shouldn't stay for too long. By the time we get back it'll be late,"Diluc said, suddenly a bit jumpy. "Oh, relax. We still have some time," Jean chuckled. "And besides, why are you so eager to get back? "she asked. "Don't worry, you'll find out soon enough," Diluc replied slyly. "Okay..." Jean played along.
