They gave me my clothes back thankfully.
But they were talking nonsense
"That's impossible." I decided. "It's not Ellie. You're not human. That's why you could see us at NYU, but Emma couldn't." Deluca repeated for the millionth time.
"So... if I'm not human... what am I?" I asked. Deluca laughed.
"That's not a good sign," Jack said in a language that I didn't understand. He gave Deluca a knowing look, as if they've done this before.
"No... it's just-" He sighed. "You look so scared."
"Because this is scary!" I shouted, "I mean... Come on! You're telling me that everything I've ever learned is wrong because I'm not human and human minds aren't advanced and everything is a lie and next thing you know freaking unicorns are real!?"
"They are." Deluca agreed.
"STOP DOING THAT!" I shouted, pacing.
"Doing what? I like to think that I'm handling this much better than I thought I would." Deluca admitted.
"Stop saying weird stuff!" I demanded.
"Okay. I'll stop." Deluca said, raising his hands in mock surrender.
"Good, now... what am I?" I asked.
"I thought you wanted me to stop saying weird stuff." Deluca teased.
"Just tell me, idiot!" I barked, cheeks flushing from anger.
"Okay... you're... a spirit." An awkward silence fills the room.
"I'm not dead." I decided, filling that awkward silence. Deluca and Jack looked at each other and started laughing.
"No, you're not dead Ellie" Jack breathed, still wiping tears from laughter.
"I guess human rumors have spread far from the truth," Deluca said.
Silence followed.
"I don't know how to explain it," Deluca admitted.
"What do you mean you 'don't know how to explain it'?!" I screamed, my voice going three octaves deeper to mock Deluca.
"Well this isn't going to be easy is it," He says in a language I do not understand. Again.
"And stop speaking in that- whatever you're speaking!" Deluca laughs and cracks a smile.
"Don't worry you'll learn Spiritry soon enough," Jack says with a smirk. It all but makes me panic.
"W-what do you mean?" I try not to stutter but it doesn't work. I slowly back up to cower behind Elrick again.
"What do you mean!?" I scream, they all look down at the floor. I gasp as I realize, I'm not going back home. I'm not going to see my sister, my brother, or... my mom ever again. I feel hot tears stream down my face.
"Ellie don't cry," Deluca says softly, reaching out.
"NO! DO-don't touch me!" I push open the door and run as fast as I can. This can't be happening this is all a dream I'll wake up and-and this will be gone. I find my way to my pink room, slam the door shut, and lock it.
I don't know how long it's been but it's been long enough. I hear the lock on the door click open, and I scramble to the floor to hide.
"Ellie, sweetheart, it's me Akimi," She says softly,
"I know you are upset but listen," She pauses walking closer to my hiding place.
"You have to live here now, to learn how to train your abilities and harness the power you have." Akimi sits down next to me and I look into her soft lavender eyes, they're so beautiful. I start crying again and she pulls me into her warm embrace.
"Don't cry, sweetheart, it's going to be okay, we're going to be your family now." What she says is meant to comfort me but it only makes me cry harder.
"I-I don't want a new family, I want Joshua and Lillian and-and, my mom!" I sob, my voice hoarse from not using it and crying. Silence floods the room, the only noise coming from my sobs. Akimi pulls away and caresses my hair.
"I'll talk to Elrick about having your family come and stay with us for a while, but they won't be able to stay long" I hug Akimi as tightly as I can and whisper a thank you in her ear.
"No problem, dear, it's the least I can do for you," She told me
"I want to see you happy as much as possible, this family is yours too now." She pulls away and stands.
"Now as much as I would love to stay here with you I have to go make dinner, will you be joining us?" I nod, she smiles and walks out.
