"YOU TRULY WANT TO LIVE," an eerie voice whispers floating over the body of Lainey Jade Lockwood.
The girl was fighting to live, to not die from the injuries she had just sustained in the crash. Outside the vehicle, the spirit who the voice belonged to could see as her father was calling for an ambulance while her brother hovered over her body. His memory was fuzzy but he was in far better condition than her. It was clear to any bystander that she was in the worst condition, having been sitting in the exact seat the tree they ran into had the most impact with.
The spirit is pulled back into the shadows as it watches a figure moving slowly towards it. Taking the cautious steps forward is Lainey Jade looking in awe around her. The spirit and the girl stand in a long dark hall dimly lit by blue strings of magic. Lainey Jade can only see a figure shinning a brighter blue standing at the end of the hall. For a moment she wonders if this is meant to serve as the afterlife but she doesn't want to die. She considers speaking to the figure, attempting to make a deal, but when she looks closer the blue lights appear to be softly flickering. Instead Lainey Jade slows to a stop and waits to see what the figure will do.
The spirit appearing as a figure doesn't need to speak to Lainey Jade to sense the spirit in the girl or to sense the thoughts filtering through the girl's head. Suddenly it is as though time stands still. A battlefield is drawn, on one side stands an innocent child with a dark soul and on the other stands a child stripped of life long ago. But only one possesses the power to change the course of fate.
The spirit allows itself to be pulled back into Lainey Jade's world rather than its own purgatory. It watches as the girl's father pulls her mother to the side to make a deal unbeknownst to the siblings.
And a secret is being formed, one that will be kept for many years after, if it is even ever revealed. Even if the siblings or parents fail to realize the unavoidable result of the fateful night - the spirit does.
It sees a glimpse into the certain future. That throughout the entire time the daughter is in the hospital, before her fate is determined, three things will remain constant: Charles and Carol Lockwood will stand in solidarity, Tyler Lockwood will be joined by Matt Donovan among their other friends and they will stay by the girl's side even when ordered away, and Lainey Jade Lockwood will fight to stay alive.
The girl could give in, let go, the pain would be gone and it would be easier. But it can sense that she doesn't want to die. And that she doesn't want to imagine what that would do to the people who love her most.
The spirit that shines blue can also sense the future she could have - the future she could provide.
"I'll save you," the spirit decides, allowing Lainey Jade to regain consciousness.
As the months pass by, the spirit can feel itself growing stronger. It's eyes don't not belong to itself but they can still see the world.
Lainey Jade goes from one day to the next without worry or concern over what is brewing inside her and the spirit rests with ease - it had chosen well.
Even when the manipulative doppelganger begins to toy with Lainey Jade, the spirit remains relaxed. It can feel a bond of trust growing with the girl who it has taken up residence inside. It trusts the intelligence and soul of the girl.
The spirit feels itself shinning brighter and stronger with each passing day and it is never more obvious then the day the girl's bones crack for the very first time. The girl believes herself to have escaped a demon but the spirit believes the girl to have found a salvation for them both.
Slowly the spirit begins to filter it's thoughts into the girl - dark thoughts. Even when the girl is sent away the spirit does not stop.
What if we dipped our teeth into the neck of the young woman? What if we flashed our eyes at the children to make them go running? What if we shot the man in front of his child?
Would the grief and pain be enough or should we keep going?
But Lainey Jade does not give in. And so the spirit grows restless.
It tries to show the others around Lainey Jade what lies within the girl but none of them are wise enough to run.
So when Lainey Jade falls to her knees begging the most evil man alive to spare her and her brother, the spirit believes the perfect chance has arrived.
The spirit can live but the girl would not.
But when the spirit is sure that the man is about to slice her skin with his teeth, he gives her his hand - agreeing. The spirit feels stupid for a moment, it should have seen the signs of affection from the man to Lainey Jade. The spirit feels the window of opportunity closing so with it's new found power it reaches out to a women hiding in the bushes - bringing her forward.
This new woman gives into the urges that the spirit pushes her way, if only Lainey Jade had done the same, the spirit thinks to itself.
It is naturally the girl's fault. After all they had spent years as wonderful allies and could have spent many more as such.
But instead the spirit has the new woman shoot Lainey Jade with bullets, too many for a mundane to survive. The man believing Lainey Jade to be gasping to her death, takes the new woman and leaves the girl clawing to life.
The spirit satisfied with the turn of events, takes control of the weakening body - the girl's soul perishing.
The preservation of the master of the supernatural begins and the spirit vows to one day return to the brothers who sparked it's interest and show them what they could never be.
But unlike it had been with the girl, the spirit will be patient until the perfect moment.
One day it would come and the spirit would forever be remembered.
It's name would be echoed throughout the darkest parts of hell and the brightest parts of heaven, further beyond earth than anyone had ever dared to venture.
Because the start and the end was the spirit, the supernatural did not exist without it.
It was life and it was death.
AUTHOR'S NOTE:
welcome to the first chapter of her story!
lj is such a crucial part to the story despite being dead so don't forget about her ;)
this chapter takes place completely in the 'spirit's' perspective so it won't make complete sense until the very end but i do think i've left enough hints for someone to piece together who the spirit is lol
mila who is now our main character will be introduced with the start of the actual story but unfortunately does not fit in here
also not sure if i got the lockwood dad's name right but we're going to go with it lol
let me know what you think :)
