I had grown up to the exhilarating tales of a magical place called Hogwarts. I was a witch- I had known this since I was able to talk and understand what others were saying. I was considered a pure-blood, but I never let this get to my head, and neither did my family, the Incas's.
My mother is a beautiful women, with long, sweeping brown hair that falls around her angular, unique face like a curtain and sparkling green eyes. My father is what some would call handsome, black hair and bright blue eyes. I have only one sibling, a fifth year named Thyme Incas. Thyme is often described as plain, with black hair she keeps jaw-length and spiked, and sea green eyes.
I must say, I am quite in between, with ice blue eyes that are very shocking, as do indeed stand out against my pale, fair skin. My hair is black, like Thyme's, and I keep it long and silky at elbow length. My hair is naturally straight, which some find charming and others horribly dull.
And today was my eleventh birthday. Mum smiled as she she passed me on the way to the kitchen, dressed in a simple witch's robe, long, black, and drooping at the ankles. I glanced at the small, slender golden enchanted watch Dad had bought me for my tenth birthday, and frowned when I noticed it was only 5:30 A.M. "Are you excited for your birthday, dear?" I spun around to see Dad standing behind me, chuckling at my surprise.
"Yes, Dad." I answered politely, for I respected my father greatly.
Dad's normal playful grin soon vanished, and he began to look very sad indeed. "We will miss you here at the Incas household." He murmured.
"I shall miss you all as well." I responded, trying not to allow him to notice the tears that began to well up in my blue eyes.
Dad smiled softly. " Samantha Alexandria Incas, you're a wise soul."
I smiled back in my own meek manner. "Thank you, Dad. School starts September 1st, correct?"
"That's correct." He nodded stiffly, his blue eye brimmed with tears.
"Thanks for the information." I said, and, trying to be brave, I hurried into the kitchen.
Dad let out a soft, hardly audible sigh from behind me, and I quickly pulled the door shut. Inside, Mum was leaning over the kitchen sink, peeling potatoes the Muggle way. "Hello, Samantha."
"Hi, Mum. Where's Thyme?" I asked, fixating my eyes upon her.
She didn't turn around, she just kept peeling, " Thyme is outside in the garden picking tomatoes for the Salsa dip."
"Thanks, Mum." I answered, quickly scurrying out of the kitchen, out the back door and out into the family garden.
Thyme was crouching over a few stubborn tomato plants, furiously pulling at nearby weeds. "Bah!" She cried after a moment of tugging. "I give up!" She whipped her wand out of her boot and gave a quick flick of her wrist.
Instantly, the tomato'a floated into a nearby five gallon bucket, and I rolled my eyes and said, "Hi, Thyme."
Thyme spun around, eyes wide, then chuckled nervously when she spotted me. "Oh, good, it's only you. What can I do for you, birthday girl?"
I shrugged, playing it causal. "well, you could tell me a little about Hogwarts, hm?"
Thyme laughed lightly. "No way to describe it, really, sis, except to say it is a magical place full of surprises."
"Ah." I nodded, trying not to let my disappointment show. "Thanks anyway, Thyme."
Thyme nodded and returned to her work.
