Mom pulled up in front of the school. I took a deep breath and opened the passenger door.
"Here's some lunch money, K," Mom said as she handed me five dollars. "Have a good day, meli,"
"Thanks," I said as I got out of the car. I stuffed the money in my pocket and walked toward the school.
It was much bigger than I thought it would be. The high schools in Hawaii are quite smaller than the ones here.
I walked in the front door, and there it was. Teens everywhere, on their phones, talking in groups, laughing, studying, and writing. The only other place I have seen this many people in one place was at luaus that my family went to.
"Wow," I whispered as I looked around. I saw the main office and started walking towards it. I pulled open the door and saw a secretary with quite a lot of hair sprayed hair.
"Hello, sweetie," she said in a high pitched voice. "How may I help you?"
"Oh, uhm, my name is Kakalina Kekoa. I'm new here, I just moved from Hawaii. I'm not really sure where I'm supposed to be," I said.
"Oh, no problem. I have your schedule and school I.D. right here." She said as she walked to the printer behind the desk and grabbed a piece of paper, which I am assuming is my schedule. She handed the schedule to me and opened a drawer to get my I.D. and lock. "Here you go, your locker number is on your schedule. If you have any questions, you're free to come here and ask me or any of the other students. Have a nice day!" She said as she sat back down in her chair.
"Thanks," I said as I left the office and looked at the locker number. Number 514 on the Second Floor. I looked for a staircase and found one just beside the main office. I went to it and walked up the stairs. I made my way down the hallway on the Second Floor and looked at the numbers on the lockers. Number 502, 504, 506. I kept walking until I got to 514. The lockers were a deep maroon color, which I am assuming is one of the school colors. I opened the locker and it looked very clean. I took the extra supplies I had out of my backpack and put them in the locker. I looked at the lock combination, R31-L6-R18. I had to remember that. I wrote it on my hand in pen so I wouldn't forget. I closed my locker, put my backpack on and tried the combination. Right thirty-one... left six... right eighteen. I pulled and it opened. "Yay!" I whispered to myself. I closed the lock again and looked at my schedule. "Okay, first period, Accelerated Trig in room 413 with Mr. Thompson, First Floor," I said to myself. I walked down the hallway, still looking at my schedule and bumped into someone. "Oh, aumihi!" I said.
The person, who I realized was a guy, turned around and said "Hey, watch where you'r-," he paused and looked at my eyes. He was quite tall, a good five inches taller than I was, had dark brown hair, and electrifying green eyes. "Sorry, I was, uh, wasn't looking where I was going,"
"It's all right, neither was I," I said. "Hey, uhm, can you help me find room 413? I'm kind of new here,"
"Oh, for sure. Just go down this staircase and take a right down that hallway, should be the second door on your left," he said, making gestures with his hands.
"Okay, thanks," I said as I walked toward the staircase.
"Hey, I didn't catch your name," he said
I turned around and said, "Kakalina, Kakalina Kakoa. Or K for short. Might I ask you yours?"
"Jason, my name is Jason Leipnik, nice to me you, K," he said. He made a short wave, smiled and walked away.
"And you," I said to myself as I headed down the stairs.
